Bottle from a local bottle shop. Aroma is brown malt, caramel, nuts, dried fruits, notes of cognac, and toffee. Some slight hoppy notes as well? Flavour is sweet with a decent bitterness. Body is full, bit sticky. Probably the same as BW17 but I give this version a higher evaluation, good stuff.

Bottle from Speciaalbierpakket. Aroma is caramel malt, cognac, nuts, toffee, vanilla, dried fruits, and a touch of butterscotch. Flavour is sweet and light bitter. Body is above medium. Good Barley Wine, lots of sweet barley malt with toffee and nutty Cognac.

As BW23. Murky light brown colour with lasting head. Obvious alcohol and oak notes. Somewhat musty, yeasty.

Bottle (thanks Mikko V.!). Deep amber colour, small beigeish brown head. Aroma is toffee, some apple, cognac and mild malty tones. Flavour is rye, some toffee, mild alcohol and a bit wooden and some dried fruity tones to it. Raw aroma, but quite nice flavour.

This is the BW20. It is a bit thin. And a bit astringent. The normally great dark fruit and fig flavours are mild. Okay beer, but very weak for the style. Sterk Ams

Bottle @ home. Dark brown colour, beige foam. Nose of caramel, raisins, some cognac. Taste is medium sweet, some notes of cognac, bitter palate, some booziness. A bit harsh.

Van der Linden Champagne Cognac BW, alias van Berging BW17-20 of hoeveel ‘versies’ er ook van mogen zijn. Enniewee, diep amberbruine kleur, beige kraag. Aroma is erg zoet, suiker, rozijnen, dadels. Smaak van alcohol, vleugje cognac, bruine suiker, te zoet, geen topper.

Bottle. BW20. Color: Dark copper, creamy light brown head. Aroma: Dark malt, caramel, Cognac. Taste: Medium sweet dark malt, malty, caramel, dark dried fruit, oak and bit boozy Cognac. Hints of nuts' Light bitterness, going to over moderate bitter palate at long lasting finish. Bit sticky mouthfeel. Over medium body, below average carbonation. Nice complexity and good balance in between all flavours. A bit on the sweet side in the beginnng, but the upcoming bitterness makes a very nice finish. Good. Flesje gedeeld door Niels. Bruin troebel bier met mooie stevige schuimkraag. Aroma van vanille en donker fruit. Smaak is rokerig en fruitig en in de nasmaak komt de cognac naar boven.

Flesje gedeeld met Benzai, Tomhendriksen en keukenboer. Roodbruin helder bier. Aroma is houtig rokerig. Smaak is zoet, hout, rook en hop. Nasmaak is rokerig maar ebt snel weg.

Fles gedeelt door Inoven, geprobeerd met Benzai en Keukeman. Het is een helder donkerbruin bier met weinig schuim. Het heeft een gebrande cognac achtige geur. De smaak is vol, gebrand, cognac en hout.

Bottled 330ml (Smaakhuis)
Nice clear copper colour, small off-white head. Apple, fruits, some malts in the nose. Light-bodied, a bit fizzy carbonation, Champagne like! Raisins, apple/grapes, Champagne, some caramalts in the flavour. Very thin for this ABV. Not much Barley Wine character here - like ESB mixed with Champagne. Not too bad anyhow.

Bottled 330ml (Smaakhuis)
Dark amber colour, medium-sized brownish head. Aroma has toffee, cognac, apple. Full-bodied. Elegant flavour: malty, rye, hops, toffee, cognac and some alcohol. Good flavour, aroma is not as exicited. Well-brewed.
