New Scotch-style ale reviving an all but forgotten style in Belgium. Yellowish beige, stable head, very dark chestnut colour. Sweet and malty aroma, dates, raisins, chocolate, candi sugar, sherry, soy sauce; dark fruits in the mouth, sweet and smooth, even a bit syrupy, resinous mouthfeel, light roasted bitterness in the finish as is to be expected from the style. I appreciate any attempt to revive old and dying beer styles but apart from that, this is a very decent Belgian ale.

Tap sample at In de Wildeman. Reddish brown colour, light beige head. Aroma of fruity esters, fusels, alcohol, caramel. Flavour is rather sweet, sugar, typical SF, caramel, light toasted malts, bitter alcohol, light fruity, light malty and alcohol bitter finish. Light to medium-bodied. Not bad for SF, but again too sweet to be really enjoyable.

Draught @ Cafe Becoloth Boxtel. Clear dark red color, full sized dense beige head that leaves a good lacing. Smell malts, overripe fruits, sweetness. Taste malts, sugar, a bit butter, overripe fruits, all with a slightly bitter undertone. Low to medium carbonation and body.

On tap at Wildeman, Amsterdam 2/06/2012. Deep amber in coo our with a big, off-white head. Candy sugar sweetness, some floral hops and a decent, bitter finish. Fine.
