The St. Bernardus Abt 12 is recognized as one of the best ales in the world. For the occasion of our 60th anniversary, our brewmaster Bert Van Hecke created a unique and special variety of the St. Bernardus Abt 12. This "Special Edition" (2011 only) contains hops from Poperinge: Challenger and Golding, and has been brewed with black, amber, munich and pale ale malts.

Bottle. Nice head with good duration. Color is dark brown. Aroma and taste are fruit, yeast, malt and caramel.

Bottle, 11% at De Pintelier, Groningen. The aroma is yeasty when the beer is cold and gets more spicy as it warms. Dark brown colour, getting cloudy at the bottom. Small stable tan head. The flavour is quite malty and a little sweet. Not overly so, but good. High carbonation, but OK mouthfeel. The flavour is spicy with anis and cinnamon, not as complex as I had expected. Hint of bread in the finish. Good balance.

Light brown beer with a lasting off-white head. Malt, brown sugar, dark fruits and other yeast notes in the aroma. Caramel malty, sweet flavour but with a certain roast dryness to balance. Big and creamy mouthfeel. Side by side with the original, March 2008. This one has a smoother mouthfeel, and licorice plays a smaller parts in the flavour. But they are extremely similar.

Amber orange with creamy white head. Complex aroma - dark fruits, malts, sugar & yeast. Alcohol is visible. Sweet. Light warmth. Spicy & long finish... Dope!

Bottle. Yeasty, date/raisin/fig aroma with malt and a bit of earth. Great ruby-brown color with a small off-white head. Fig, rasin flavor with lots of yeast and some bready malts with caramel and something darker. Alcohol noticeable. Medium body and relatively easy to drink. LIngering yeast, dark fruit, and malt. Very similar to the regular. Nice.

RBSG07. From 75 cL bottle. Pours amber with a crispy head. Aroma is malty and sweet and bubblegum. Flavour is dry and and slight malty. Finish is bubblegum and malty, nice.

Pours deep amber into a trappist glass. Fluffy medium head with excellent retention leaves no lacing as it recedes to skim surface. Dark rum and pit fruit aromas. Dry and spicy caramel with a lasting buttered rum raisin finish. Taste is more like a Belgian dark than the regular Abt 12.

(Bottle 75 cl) Slightly hazy dark amber golden with a dense and creamy, off-white head leaving laces. Soft and very fruity aroma. Fairly full-bodied with very complex fruit notes of banana and tropical fruit - litchi perhaps? Has a weak whiff of yeast. Sweetish finish without any real bitterness - but it doesn’t come out sticky in any way. Very complex and pleasant. 030407

Bottled. A very hazy dark amber beer with a light brown head. The aroma is very powerful of fruit - especially over ripe fruits, as well as notes of berries. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of over ripe fruit and alcohol.

Bottle courtesy of Adrian910ss: Poured a dark brown color ale with a super huge foamy head with perfect retention and lacing. Aroma of spiced cookie dough with some dried fruits. Taste is a mix between cookie dough malt, light toffee, spiced and some dry fruits. Body is full with some great carbonation and alcohol is very well hidden. IMO it is still not as good as Rochefort 10 but I still believe this is one of the top beer of this fine style.
