The St. Bernardus Abt 12 is recognized as one of the best ales in the world. For the occasion of our 60th anniversary, our brewmaster Bert Van Hecke created a unique and special variety of the St. Bernardus Abt 12. This "Special Edition" (2011 only) contains hops from Poperinge: Challenger and Golding, and has been brewed with black, amber, munich and pale ale malts.

75 cl Bottle, the final piece of a tasting session. Dark brown beer, off white head. Aroma of alcohol, dark fruits, chocolate and St.Bernardus yeast, mouldy. Flavour of dark fruits, yeast, slight hop bitterness, alcohol. Thick mouthfeel. Lots of carbonation. I prefer the standard version, nevertheless great stuff.

Bottle shared by cdumler. Thanks Chris! This is the point in the evening where my handwriting starts to fall apart. Cloudy reddish color with a medium head that disappears fairly quickly. Aroma of dark fruits, toffee, banana, citrus and wheat. Taste is very much the same, but a little less complex and lacking the citrus notes. Smooth and nice effervescence.

The bottle looks really good, no label, everthing’s printed on the bottle. Looks really good in the glass, fine aroma. Tastes malty and strong, becomes not penetrating. A little note of chocolate. Very interesting and good beer!

Poured a deep, translucent amber, nut brown with a thin white head that lasted the length of the glass. The special edition 60th anniversary bottle is clearly marked. Aroma is subtle, but if you get your nose right in there you can smell dark malted grain, biscuit, candy, brown sugar, almonds, toffee and yeast. Flavor is very sweet, malty, sugary, with flavors of banana, Belgian candy, butterscotch, vanilla, spice and grain. Finish is dry with a lasting sweetness and a touch of heat from the alcohol. Truthfully, what makes this beer so good is the subtly of the aromas and flavors and the way they marry themselves together.

Bottled, thanks kmweaver! Dark amber, dense head. Grassy, caramelly nose. Medium sweet, soft and seemless. Full bodied with intricate caramelly malt flavours, notes of everything from tropical fruits to perfume and hay, as well as candi sugar and yeast. Powerful, yet complex and elegant. Beautifully balanced.

Aroma is smooth malts, molasses, some pine, brown sugar, spice and nutmeg, and yeast. Pours with large frothy off-white head with a muddy particle filled brown body. Beautiful. Taste isn’t quite on par with the regular, but taste mouthfeel and palate are awsome. Some alcohol on the finish. Not as good as the regular but very very good.

Hazy dark amber with beige head. Strong alcohol notes in the aroma along with sweet malt, overripe fruits and yeast. Sweet complex flavor with dominant alcohol note, malt and fruits. Good candidate for aging.

Sampled from a 750ml brown bottle this beer poured a dark brown color with a large brown head. The aroma is malty with notes of ripe fruit and brandy. The aroma was toasty malts, caramel,ripe fruits and a faint hint of chocolate. The finish is a bit dry and a hint of alcohol shows through.

Bottle at Toms Ultimate Glasgow Tasting ... Deep brown ... very malty yeasty nose ... deep fruit malt tones with some almond and again some yeasty toes. good deptha nd character.

Pour is a very dark red with a large tan head. Aroma is brown sugar with dark fruit and alcohol. It all mixes quite well. Flavor is raisons with molasses and dark chocolate. Alcohol is there but in more of a warming way then anything. Finish is sweet and very dry. A very tasty beer, probably not as good as the original Abt 12 but something deffinatly to pick up if you see it in your store.
