Pond water colour beer, small bubbly pale tan head. Light palate, semi dry, decent fine carbonation. Slightly thin caramel malts, a little creamy malt. This would be pretty average barleywine but it's been aged in a tawny port barrel and it shows. In a good way. Good mature berry fruits with a little tawny port toffee and ripe fruits. Trace of slightly wet wood. Smooth finish. The barrelling really takes this one by the scruff of the neck and makes it something to be proud of.

Bottle. Color: Slightly hazy copper, thin off-white head. Aroma: malty, dark fruit, sweetish. Taste: Dark fruit, malty, over moderate sweet, combined with subtle notes of smoke, nuts and spicy notes (cinnamon?). Maybe the smoky notes are not realy smoke but the combination of nuts and spices? I don't match the smoke directly with Port. Bit boozy, some Port, concentrated grapes, some wood. Caramel hints, vanilla hnts, raisin notes. Most Port and Port BA beers I've tasted are somewhat sweeter and more grape-like, although I didn't taste Quevedo Port yet (Quevedo Tawny Port barrels used). Aroma and taste tend to Whiskey BA. Nevertheless this one is really nice. Moderate to over moderate bitterness. Dry-ish mouthfeel. Nice balanced BA.
