Cask at the Belle Vue, Wycombe, 29/05/16. Clear golden copper with a decent off White head. Nose is light caramel, grain, touch of bread, faintest of rum notes. Taste comprises light bread, fruit esters, biscuit, straw, toffee. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, semi drying close. So so ... doesn’t offer much - rum is hardly noticeable.

500ml bottle. Pours a clear dark brown/red/copper colour, creamy off-white head, good lacing. Aroma is mostly malt... caramel, maybe a very slight hint of rum, but if the bottle hadn’t have said so I don’t think I’d know there was any. Same can be said for the taste, a pleasant malty flavour, any rum there is too subtle, maybe that’s a good thing... Overall it’s a nice beer but I was expecting something a little more interesting.

Small, dense amberish cream head over totally clear reddish copper beer. Rich caramel & toffee nose, hint at diacetyl, shortbread. Toffee, but seriously watered down, and with an agreeable hoppy/parsleylike flavour, suggesting freshness. Leafy too, no doubt again the coloured malts talking. Diacetyl is fairly imperceptible in the mouth, if not completely gone. Toffee remains in the aftertaste for a while, but in the very end, only a harsh bitterness, dissolved in water remains. Feels better carbonated than it looks; light body, but very slick. It might not be real ale, it’s far from bad all the same - exception made for the poor aftertaste.
