Daleside Old Legover is a balanced mid-brown ale. Fruit and floral aromas and tastes of mature fruits and a slight nuttiness are rounded off with a lingering hop and bitter aftertaste

500ml bottle - Mahogany body, thick beige head that dissipates rather quickly. Nutty aroma, a bit of caramel too. The taste is malty, sweet at the back, lots of demerara hints in there as well. Better than I was expecting.

500ml bottle: BBD May 2014, poured into an Abbot Ale glass tankard on 24 Aug 2013. Looked fine: good dark brown body with an off-white head that hung around and gave some heavy lacing. Malts vied with the hops both in the aroma and taste, the malts just about winning on each account. Toffee and nutty feel to the brew, I liked it. Body suits the flavours nicely, could be a bit stronger alcohol wise, but the UK tax laws have stopped some beers being brewed and sold at their best ABV levels.

Very surprised to see this on cask at the Telford Town centre Wetherspoons (20 Feb 2013) and felt compelled to have a pint. Looked like a lot of the old style ’English Bitters’: meaning a fairly dull mid-brown colour with an off-white head sat moodily on top. Typical UK beery esters reached my nose: nothing too strong or powerful, just an understated blend of malts and hops, neither taking complete control. The malts however do hint at a sweetness to come and sure enough the brew has a malty molasses feel and flavour in the mouth. OK more than brilliant: pleased I had it though, don’t see enough Daleside beers in Shropshire.

Regular bitter, brown in character. Mild fruits evident, and a mild spice in the flavour.

Cask at the Old Manor (JDW), Bracknell. Pale chestnut with a tight cream head; grainy aroma with some musty fruit; malty taste with some fruit; biscuity finish. Very average.

50cl bottle from Tescos. Copper with a fast fading white head; lightly hopped aroma; caramel malt flavour with some dusty hops and a creamy texture; than a finish with sweet fruit and biscuit. A straightforward bitter.

[Cash at The Christopher Creeke (JDW), Bournemouth] Amber with a moderate cream head and a light sparkle. Caramel and cream are the main flavours in this unassuming bitter, with a light woody note and a mild bitterness. There’s not really a lot to it; nothing offensive, but nothing memorable either. It’s your archetypal boring brown bitter, but the creamy mouthfeel makes it less refreshing than some of it’s compatriots.

(Bottle) Clear coppery brown with thin tawny head. Aroma is sot caramel with a hint of spice. Medium body and fairly fizzy. Flavour is gentle, mainly caramel lay malt with some nuttiness and a tiny hint of bitterness in finish. Overall it’s a pleasant easy drinking beer, but nothing special.

Bottle from Tesco 030212
Light brown...clear...frothy white head
Aroma - Light sweet biscuity malt...bit of hops....light aroma
Taste - Sweet biscuity malts...some caramel...light fruitiness...light bitter hops...hint of cereal...easy drinking
Palate - Soft carb..Thin to medium body. Finish as main flavour... increased malty sweetness then clears off palate.
Overall - Easy drinking session ale, reasonable bitter, bit above average in quality
