Beware the beast, scourge of the hills and devourer of sheep. Back then the family trod quietly as he laid his camouflaged head close to their feet. And now we are grown take heed! For he is old as the rocks and will wake from his slumber!

Bottle from Morrisons, Elland. Dark clear reddish-brown with a very thin head. Mostly hoppy but it's dark malt influence gives it a nice edge. It's somewhat sticky-sweet in texture and taste.

Bottle from Beers of Europe. Poured a clear dark brown with a frothy off white head. The aroma is malt, floral aromatic hop. The flavour is moderate to strong bitter with a dry malt, crisp woody, light dry smoke, liqoueice woody hop bitter palate and a lingering bitter finish. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Bottle from Tesco, Longford [250617]
Caramel ruby borwn, very thin head dissipates, no lacing
Aroma of caramel malts, hint of toasted malts, light fruits under the malt
Taste of caramel, some toasty malts, some soft stone fruits, getting some earthy hops. Where are the cascade hops? Malts are quite decent in this, some more bitter hops come though later, not an IPA at all
Palate - Very soft carb, medium body, fairly bitter, sweet dark caramel malts. Finish as main flavour with a toasty malty linger
Overall - It’s not an IPA, certainly not a black IPA. I’ve rated it as a slightly unusual malty bitter. Better than average.

33cl can from Morrisons, Bracknell. I’ve read the other reviews with interest - I guess the first thing to say is that this is not, and does not claim to be, a Black IPA. With that out of the way, I’d say that this is a jolly good ESB style beer. The colour is a beautiful copper with a large, loose cream head; the aroma has caramel and a touch of citrus and pine needles; the tsate is smooth with caramel malts and a woody bitterness; and there are some interesting lingering notes of grated chocolate. This is certainly a beer I’ll return to.
