Beware the beast, scourge of the hills and devourer of sheep. Back then the family trod quietly as he laid his camouflaged head close to their feet. And now we are grown take heed! For he is old as the rocks and will wake from his slumber!

Can from Asda. Medium brown in colour, with a slight, off-white, head. A sweet beer, with toffee and plum notes, a hint of leafy hop, bready malts and moderately bitter finish. Fine, but not my idea of a black IPA.

Not really sure what to make of this, sweet malt and hops mixed up in an inoffensive jumble.

A "dark IPA" with an emphasis on the bitter British style. An interesting colour in the glass and a woody, bitter and quite farmyardy flavour. Not sure about the mouthfeel, but overall ok.

Not an IPA, more like a strong bitter. OK.

Clear, dark brown colored, small beige ring. Aroma is of some dark malt, bit dark fruit, some fruity and citrus notes but light, some caramel. Taste is medium sweet malt, caramel, some roasted malt and chocolate, medium- citrus and fruity hops, medium dark chocolate bitterness, dryish finish. Medium bodied, average carbonation. Some metallic notes.

330ml bottle into a ’Leffe’ glass at home on 16th Feb 2017. Red hue to the brown body, a wispy beige covering on top. Red berries, hedgerow fruits in the aroma and taste: so fruity in nature. Fairly dry in the mouth with very little sweetness to the fruity flavours. Different, interesting and enjoyable: but a 330ml bottle is enough in one sitting for me.

Pours dark brown topped with a medium small beige head, foamy. Chocolate and mild roasty notes upfront. Moderate bitterness, citrusy feel to it. Gentle roastiness in teh aftertaste that gets gradually more noticeable. Lighter body. Nothing special, really. Pretty average beer, and below average BIPA.

Clear, lively, reddish-brown beer with a thin, filmy head. Light aroma of fruity malt. Taste is hoppy fruit, light and bittersweet. Bit watery. Aftertaste is seriously unpleasant. Bitter, chemical-y. Really makes an otherwise inoffensive beer quite horrible. Rubbish. UPDATE: So I'm giving this another go as I got it in a Beer Hawk mystery case. My opinion hasn't really changed. It might just be booziness in the aftertaste rather than something chemical-y as I described first time but it's not nice whatever it is.

Bottle from Morisons. Dark Amber colour with a tan head. Not so much the look of a black IPA. Light malty caramel and fruity hops aroma. Taste light bittersweet. Medium body.
