Beware the beast, scourge of the hills and devourer of sheep. Back then the family trod quietly as he laid his camouflaged head close to their feet. And now we are grown take heed! For he is old as the rocks and will wake from his slumber!

330ml bottle @ The Alb, Shrewsbury. Pours black, thin off white head. Aroma of liquorice, treacle. Taste is oily with rich treacle, dark malts.. not really a Black IPA as such.. faint malt presence, harsh sweetness. Not really sure what this is.

Bottle. Morrisons. Clear, dark, cola brown. Filmy, blotchy, off white head. Nose has burnt malts. Caramel. Wood ash. Hint of fruit cake. Trace of hop. Taste is pretty tangy, vinous bitter. Has a metallic sharpness to it. Plenty of body. A bit too fizzy, maybe. Biting bitterness on the finish. Felt a bit of battle getting through this one.

Bottle, 0.33l. Clear dark brown color with thin quickly diminishing off-white head and average sparkling appearance. Aroma of mild roasted malt, caramel, rubber and grass. Taste starts refreshing citric and herbal, follows by mild roasted malt, caramel and light smoke, while finish is moderate bitter. Med body, oily texture and average carbonation in palate. Very decent black ale...

Level 42 botteshare. Thanks to Big Dave. Clear amber beer, tidy cream colour head. Palate is light, fairly dry and has modest fine carbonation. Thin malts, mildly sweet. Glue, paint! Bitterish dark chocolate finish. Bleh!

330ml bottle from William Stead JDW Darlington. Served chilled. Dark brown amber colour, off-white foam head leaving alittle lacing and aroma of roast malt & fruity hop. Taste is roasted, dark malt, chocolate and coffee, with notes of fruity, citrus hop. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry roast bitter finish. Quite OK.

Bottle shared at level 42 Canary wharf tasting. 11/07/2016. Many thanks to Big Dave for this one. A clear mid amber coloured pour with a lasting halo of off white head. Aroma is a little medicinal, sweet toffee malts, burnt sugars, dried fruits. Flavour is composed of nutty malts, twig, burnt sugars, toffee, little piney hop. Palate is semi sweet, moderate carbonation, mineral. Ok. Maybe not a black ipa.

Bottle at Level 42 tasting, thanks to the wingman, 11/07/16. Rich amber with a light beige swirl, not so black ! Nose is earthy hops, light caramel, bready, musty, grain, nutty. Taste comprises bitter hops, orange peel, light pine, charr, liquorice dipped. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, semi drying close. So so for style ... kind of a watered down version but not the biggest disaster.

Bottle thanks to Dave. It pours clear deep amber - brown with a medium off - white head. The aroma is burnt plastic, sweet, tar, wet cardboard, earth and dirt. The taste is brown bread, toasted grain, dirt, tar, wood, watery, leather and plastic with dry, earthy finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Plenty tar and plastic. Pretty shit overall.
