Blackish dark brown body and small foam. Round motor oil smell, nail polish, vague barley. Flavour is smoky notes on a sweet barley body. Mouthfeelis just too watery for this style which by definition is thick. Some okay elements but ultimately kind of a letdown.

On tap. Pours black with almost no head. Aroma of burnt malts and dark chocolate. Smoky espresso flavor but weaker than expected for the style. But nice with pub food...

On tap at the Alibi Room, pours black with a small off-white head. Aroma is dry roasted malts. Nutty, roasted malt flavour. Nothing exceptional here.

Very dark chestnut brown colour. Raisiny, minty, mincemeaty aroma. Light body for style. Way too light, actually. This would struggle as a foreign stout. Palate of chocolate, diacetyl, toastiness and roast. Drinkable, but too light, too timid for style.

Re-rate, February 2010 @ Alibi. Very dark brown with a thin head. The aroma is chocolatey, ashy, tobaccoey. Chocolatey palate, soft and smooth with smokey tobaccoey nuances. Dessert-like body but a drinkable character.
