Bourbon barrel aged imperial milk stout; vanilla and cacao nibs

Our big, bold Imperial Stout is aged for 4 months in Basil Hayden Bourbon barrels and then further conditioned on Peruvian cacao and Ugandan vanilla beans. Big notes of bourbon, oak, chocolate and vanilla. Great enjoyed cold, better yet if you let it warm up. This one will sneak up on you.

Jet black with a rich light brown head. Boozy barrel notes with some chocolate. Creamy mouthfeel but lots of booze, apple and roast.

Taster on Weathered. Appearance: brown, beige head. Aroma: strange herbal notes, some bourbon and roasted malts. Taste: along the same lines, some booziness (but mayb cause it was not cold). Overall: not very bad, but I expected much more.

500 ml bottle. Major foam eruption on opening. What the heck? This is a stout. Immature brewer or bad bottling. Minus points... Aromas of chocolate, alcohol, and roasted malts. Flavors follow same with additional heavily carbonated cola, green oak and light bourbon. Hot and thin. Not well integrated. Must be a hit and miss based on reviews. Expecting a lot more. Must have got a miss...

Smells softly of barley but mostly just unidentifiable booze. Has just a black body with no head, watery sheen, really not the way a beer like this should look. Flavour is funky (and not in a good way) mix of molasses, brown sugar, and kahlua. Mouthfeel is full enough. This one needs a major overhaul.

Dark brown, with a thin head. The aroma is quite chocolatey, and hints at a fairly sweet beer. Nice little vanilla note, hint of cacao,

16 oz. can, pours jet black with a small tan head. Aroma sort of smells like peanut butter, followed by bourbon barrels and vanilla, and then some cocoa. Flavour is quite sweet and bourbon-heavy, with lots of sweet vanilla, bourbon, cocoa and lactose. Not the most dominant barrel character further on, but all the flavours are cohesive. Not a pinnacle of BA impie stouts, but this is really well-done.

Draught at the brewery
Dark brown rather than black, with small brown head. The aroma is very nice, it shows the treatments and adjuncts. Lean body, with moderate sweetness clearly lactose, the malt profile could be richer, some caramel, the vanilla and the bourbon are elegant and complement the chocolate; it seems a bit thinner and boozier in the finish, short too.
Not the richest imperial stout, but excellent result, very enjoyable.
