From old tasting notes. Nearly opaque reddish brown color. Bubbly tan head. Light sweet malt nose. Zesty sweet toasted malt flavor. Flavor fades in middle. Light dry finish.

Kind of a sickly, syrupy taste to this one. Pours dark enouhh with ok head as poured into the snow waiting for the bus in Aylmer. Sweet finish. Low carbonation. Lets leave this style to the craft brewers boys. Bottle from Bieres du monde across thr street.

Évaluation no. 18 Juillet 2010. De couleur noire avec une mousse qui disparait très rapidement. Aucun nez. Au gout elle est caramélisée avec en finale des notes métalliques. Difficile de trouver des saveurs. Aucun intérêt . Décevant

Originally rated December 2004. This Porter is totally old school for Labatt. They haven’t put a penny in marketing this brew since day one. The label and box are still brown and beige. Poured a very dark brown with ruby highlights. The head was fuzy and creamy and left a nice lace. The aroma was malty and had hints of coffee. The taste was quite different though. Not much coffee and chocolat. More of a fruity taste, quite sweet. Slight bitterness, with a good aftertaste. Very, very smooth.

Brown bottle, 341 ml, purchased at Broue Ha Ha, savoured on June 2 2011; eye: black, opaque, nice beige head that rapidly turns into a minuscule ring, no lacing; nose: lactic, roasted malt, caramel; mouth: lots and lots of caramel, sugar, slight roasted malt, finale in caramel, light body, not much carbonation, really sweet, a bit thin; overall: once is enough FRANÇAIS Bouteille brune, 341 ml, achetée chez Broue Ha Ha, savourée le 2 juin 2011; œil : noire, opaque, belle mousse beige qui se transforme rapidement en un très minuscule anneau, pas de dentelle; nez : lactique, malt torréfié, caramel; bouche : beaucoup, beaucoup de caramel, sucre, très léger malt torréfié, finale en caramel, corps léger, peu carbonatée, très sucrée, un peu mince; en résumé : une fois c’est assez

Finally finding a single of this stuff, I’d been intrigued by the macro-bastard-brewery as to what they could possibly add to the porter mix that could be worth buying.... not interested in buying a six pack, finally at a local "dep" I found my answer in a single bottle with that shady label that seems straight out of the seventies. Like a Lincoln Continental all decked out in shag carpet, big permed hair and bell bottoms on black men, this brown and beige label with handwritten "porter" was sure to be coooool drinkin’ as the P-Funk all-stars blasted from the eight-track. Right? Well, it pours with muddy brown precision and a foamy dark beige head. The aroma is barley that disappears into the night, lost to too much carbonation. The flavour? It’s like a rotten candy that your uncle offered to you out of his back pocket because he forgot to get you a present for your birthday. And you’re like "Ya, all dat", and that candy is melting and smelling in your hand, all that sugary mess gettin’ all over your palms. but you try it anyway because you love your uncle, but then you got this cloying sweetness on your tongue like you been eatin’ too many of grandma’s breath mints in an attempt to get high. Sugar high, that is. In short: you betch yo ass this stuff sucks.

Pours deep brown into a shaker. Cola head quickly recedes to nothing. Smoke and chocolate aromas. Cocoa and sweet aspartame...drain pour.

LABATS PORTER S6L4F3T6013 My twist off bottle label says John Labatt Signature Porter. Nice malty or carob aroma. Impressive pour for a cheap mysterious beer. Very dark with an initially creamy head which goes almost rocky after the pour! Some hints of alky but overall the taste is well behaved and friendly. Roasty porter with a slight labats background. Good carbonation for a porter. Not bad, perhaps there is some choco in the flavor too. A tad thin for a porter, just barely. Is not offensive, yet retains a nice dark beer attribute. Finish reminds me of many dark American lagers, well behaved, courteous and gentlemanlike with southern manners.

Bouteille 341ml.
