4oz pour at their East Van taproom. Pours murky brown with off-white head. Aroma has a nice roasted malt/coffee profile. Flavour has nutty, toasted malts. Simple, but well done.

473ml can. Pours a clear brown with red hue and a small, creamy, short lived, beige head that laces. Sweet aroma of lightly roasted caramel malt, milk chocolate and hazelnut. Sweet flavour of toasted caramel malt, cocoa, licorice, hazelnut, brown sugar and day old coffee in a dry, mild bitter finish. Light to medium body with an oily texture and average carbonation. A solid nut brown that is easy to drink.

Big thanks to Lizzie! Pours a hazy light amber brown with a gray brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of chocolate and nuttiness with a backing licorice and a but of deep dark grain. Flavor begins with a bit of sweet grains and chocolate with a nutty finish.

Capped 1L swingtop from Ledger’s. Pours pretty dark brown with a foamy tan head. Aroma is rather nuts and cocoa. Med body. Flavor is nuts and threads of cocoa. Finishes with a touch of brown sugar, but it’s a little astringent and fairly dry. Nice flavor, mod. ABV, it’s a session beer.

Bought one of these the first time they came out, the unique one-litre resealable bottle format was intriguing and a good marketing ploy for the brewhouse. Smells all right and is significantly strong enough for a brown ale, lots of hops and barley on the nose, and a good sipping beer, but not very complex.
