Lightfoot is named after a brewery in Masham which Theakston took over in 1919. The Lightfoot and Theakston families were very close and indeed linked through marriage and therefore it was a natural amalgamation of two well-established businesses. For many years it was rumoured that Theakston took over Lightfoot because they had a better cricket team something that was deemed unacceptable to the brewers in Red Lane! Lightfoot has always been a popular seasonal ale in fact so much so that in 2010 it became a permanent addition to our range and is now available all year round. It's light, fruity flavour makes it an ideal accompaniment to light curries, seafood dishes and summer salads or on a hot summer’s day perfect just on its own!

Brown 500ml bottle, best before 31 May 2008, opened and reviewed 9th May 2008. The label says 4.1% Vol. Poured into a Berliner Kindl half litre straight glass. Looks like it should, an English Bitter light amber colour, slight haze and a huge white foaming head. The rear label claims it has a ’peach-like’ element in both aroma and palate. I couldn’t detect it in either. There was a floral like smell though, so I was half way there. No great feel to this beer, refreshing and easy to drink but nothing to rave about. There are hops and a yeast presence but this is not a beer I’ll be seeking out again.

Bottle 50 cl. Courtesy of fonefan. Pours a hazy golden with a white head. Unpleasant rubbery British hops in the nose. Light body, a tart skewed fruitiness and ugly phenols. Ends dry. What a mess of a Golden Ale. 310312
