Our 4th annual release of Anniversary Barleywine is unlike any to come before it. The 2020 vintage is a decadent mega blend of previous vintages and historical cognac barrels, a culmination of four years of hard work. In the eyes of our brewers and barrel master, it is truly Sori Brewing´s Piece De Resistance.

(Keg at Juova, 20240523) The beer poured nearly black. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had vanilla, toasted notes, vinous notes wood and ash. Palate was full bodied and warming with medium carbonation. Flavours were wood, vinous notes, vanilla, toasted malts, ash and bitterness. Aftertaste had wood, vinous notes and bitterness. Too much wood. Some pleasant notes.

Bottle at home, from Cat in a Glass online, 11/05/24. Dark mahogany brown with a beige cap that dissipates over time. Nose is booze, dried fruits, dates, figs, spice, light vinous nature, herb, toffee, fruit cake mix. Taste comprises dried fruit rinds, cognac nip, dates, figgy jam, toffee, spice, dark malts, raisins. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a good blast of alcohol. Tidy BA Barley Wine if a touch unrefined in places and lacking a bit of cohesion ... decent though.

Almost clear dark brown beer, tidy tan head but it doesn't hang around long. Smooth palate, fairly light, semi dry, decent fine carbonation. One of these barleywines that serves its barrel and that is not a criticism. There is a smooth malt base with unsweet caramel and a touch of smooth dark chocolate. The Cognac is the dominant flavour, smooth cognac with a good parade of cognac drenched ripe fruits. Some bitterish barrel wet wood lingers down below. Smooth light finish. Very quaffable.

Small off-white rim over deep red-brown beer. Chocolate, coffee, fusels, musk, felt, hazelnuts, brandy, tobacco. Chocolate, cola, tobacco, alcohol & fusels. Woody - leafy bitterness underneath all the sweet & alcoholic malts' stuff. The cognac is unmistakeable. Not very thick, even more - less - than alcoholthinning would warrant. Slick, alcoholheat, low carbonation. A bit thin for a Barley Wine, IMHO, but the flavour is spot on. Txs to Stef!
