Cask @ White Hart Hotel, St Albans. Clear copper with a small glow. Has a gritty mild sweetness including some malts and bittering hops. Its aroma is similar.

Cask at Cask & Barrel. Clear amber body with a dense off-white cap. Excellent lacing. Aroma of peach, copper and marmalade. Flavour of wood, toast, peppery biscuit and a dry, tangy finish. Thin body with a smooth texture. There’s an interesting ’burnt’ quality to this.

Typical Oakham style. Hopped-up bitter using a different method from traditional but it works and they know it.

On tap at the Gryphon, Bristol 22/4/2016. Amber, with a decent, off-white, head. Grapefruit, citrus hops, biscuity malts. leading to a lingering, dryish finish. Very good.

Tried at the Lincoln Tap house. Amber to mid brown colour with a white head. Aroma pine resin and fruity malt. Taste hoppy light sweet to a bitter finish. So much flavour from a beer that’s under 4%.

Handpull cask at the Malt Shovel Tavern, Northampton. Amber/brown, clear with an attractive little layer of off-white head. Pine resin hop competes with sturdy crystal malt in the heavy enticing aroma. Sweet taste with bitterness in the finish. Maple syrup, pine needles and stone fruit in the aftertaste. Belies the low ABV. Extremely good.
