We teamed up with the guys from New Zealand brewery Yeastie Boys to create 日本米麦酒, which means Anticipation, a 5.4% Japanese Rice Beer. It's pale straw in colour, has a lemon meringue aroma, light grassy hops, with a very subtle umami character running throughout.

Can. Sourced Market, St. Pancras. Hazy, very pale gold. Thin, dense, sticky, white head. Looks good. Nose has pale malts. Hint of lemon. Not a lot else. Taste is sweet and bready. Clean palate. Crisp fizz. Soft sweet finish. Not entirely sure I get the point.

Can from Sourced Market St P and drunk at home. Hazy gold brown lasting white head. Sweetish. Toffee. Not much hop. Some yeast character. It’s ok. A little citrus fruit. Not sure what this is supposed to be. Inoffensive sweetish beer.

Can. Hazy light amber beer, thin pale cream colour head. Palate is light, thin, semi dry and has reasonable fine carbonation. Thin but sweetish malts, no rice pud sweetness here but something floral. Something spicy but well buried, ginger and black pepper or of that ilk. Touch of ripe citrus before a light finish. Interesting but quite thin.

330ml can. Slightly cloudy, yellow-ish, deep golden colour with average to huge, frothy to creamy, fairly lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Minimally perfumed, citrusy hoppy aroma, pale malty background with (imagined?) basmati touch, a touch of lemon. Taste is mildly bitter, citrusy hoppy, pale malty background with minimally perfumed and floral basmati touch, hints of lemon, tangerine, a cautious touch of lychee and underlying rice noodles.

Can at home in London - picked up at Kris Wines. Pours lightly hazy yellow-gold with a creamy, white head. Fairly simple pale bread in the nose, some white bread, faint lemon, tangerine. Light-medium sweet flavour with further basic pale bread, meringue, mellow citrus notes, minerals, low bitterness. Light to medium bodied with average carbonation. Somewhat dry to finish, a little flinty, with more meringue, white bread, rindy lemon, hints of grass, hay, melon. Quite drinkable overall.
