Refrigerated 12 oz. brown bottle poured into a snifter. Pours clear crimson with small off-white head. Aroma is dark fruit with a hint of alcohol, medium/light body, and no carbonation. Taste is dark fruit and booze. Not too bad, but I am not fan of the booze.

Bottle from 2008. Pours clear deep reddish brown with a large creamy beige head that leaves decent lacing. Room filling aroma of caramel, toffee, whiskey. Flavor is about the same, medium sweet with a bit of orange citrus in the mix..Lightly zesty finish, a bit acidic. Medium body, bubbly champagne like mouth feel. Quite nice.

33cl bottle @ Monks Cafe Wallingatan, Stockholm. Unclear red color with floaties in it. Medium sized beige head that leaves a fair lacing. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, raisin, plums and lightly alcohol. Taste malts, raisin, plums, alcohol and a bit sweet-bitter towards the end. Strangely enough I get some hints of chocolate as well. Medium to full body, medium carbonation.

(From notes) Tap @ 38 Degree Alehouse, Alhambra, CA (end of 2009). Red brown color, small creamy head, off white. Aroma: roasted malts, hopbitter, sweet. Flavor is sweet & medium bitter. Strong alcoholfeel (warms the throat). Finishes quite bitter, with still some malty sweet for balance. Good.

Purchased at Armanetti’s in Chicago, IL; enjoyed while watching week 13 Sunday night football. Appearance is a cloudy, murky brown with a thin off white head, looks a bit sludgy but nice. Aroma is very malty, mostly caramel, sweet with a unique fruit smell, doesn’t smell too boozey but it is prevalent. Taste does hit you with sweetness, like a syrupy cherry/plum flavor. Heavy body with medium carbonation. You get hit with the booze but it doesn’t taste like it, hid nicely. Good barley wine.

Bottle sample at a tasting. Thanks David’s friend! Clear deep red color with an off-white head. Aroma of resinous hops and caramelly malt. Flavor starts sweet and malty with caramel and a bit of fruitiness and continues resinous and hoppy with moderate bitterness. Medium to full-bodied.

very rich as the label says but very easy to drink. Took my time with it, as it is 11% but also wanted to really enjoy it. nice burnt amber color, aroma is of dark fruit and syrup. taste is pretty much the same, a little abv burn, but the sweetness eases it a little.

Pours a slightly cloudy ruby, orange, amber color with a bubbly off white head that sticks around for a bit. Smells of piny citrusy hops. A little bread and caramel for good measure. Tastes of caramel malts, crisp citrus hops and a bit of alcohol in there too. Thick mouthfeel and body. Definitely a sipper here. Great thick barley wine.

Bottle thanks to Dan! Pours a near clear amber caramel with a grayish brown head that dissipated to the edges. Aroma is full of sweet caramel with some sweet bread and a slight hop backing to balance the sweetness. A hint of alcohol well. Flavor is similarly sweet with lots of caramel, a slight dark fruit underlying as well as some sweet grains. There was a slight alcohol burn in the finish,

12 oz. bottle, pours a murky dark amber brown with a small beige head. Aroma of toffee, raisins, candied fruits, caramel and hops. Flavour is amazingly rich and complex - begins with very sweet candied fruits and toffee, with the hops kicking in later, and both a bitter and sweet finish. Full-bodied palate. Carbonation is quite high. Absolutely wonderful.
