Armada Ale was one of the first new 'Golden Ales' that emerged in the 1980s. It has a pronounced yet balanced hop character, derived from Fuggle and Golding hops. Originally commissioned by the National Maritime Museum, it quickly established itself as a piece of living history. Robust, refreshing and still a port of call in any beer-drinker's voyage of discovery.

Cask at Royal Oak. Orange amber colour with small white head. Aroma is quite fruity, blood orange mainly. Slightly boozy too, almost a bit orange liqueur like. Taste has the same strong orange taste, quite full on in the mouth, maybe a bit too much over the course of a whole pint. Quite slick, with a fruity end. Liked it, but probably would have preferred to just have a half.

Apple, mustard and caramelaroma. Hazy amber color. Very weak and watery flavor. Caramel and sherry. Apple. Almost no carbon left. Bitter afteratste. Probably way too old.

Cask at the Lamb Inn. A very enjoyable pint down the local. More golden than the Best but a bit more flavour. Same. Same score (3/5/18) --- Cask at Lamb Inn, Eastbourne. A real solid interesting ale with good hoppage. 3.7 to 3.6. (25/9/21) --- Cask at The Cricketers Arms, Berwick. A brilliant cask ale. Well rounded. Kept same.

Cask at the Garland, Redhill. Ruddy tan/brown, clear and almost flat. It’s got that nutty/yeasty astringency to the odour that so many Harvey’s beers have. Taste is bittersweet, the bittering hop leads but there’s a roast chestnut and doughy sweetness lingering just behind and coming to prominence in the finish. Vegetal notes in the aftertaste, and the body is oily, so points off there. Flawed but solid enough.

Bottle from brewery in Lewes. Goes down extraordinarily well and could go the mile for any session at the pub. Not a huge amount of flavour but who cares!
