Brouwerij 3 Fonteinen “Speling van het Lot” (Twist of Fate) is a series of small batch experimental brews, barrel maturations, fruit macerations and/or blends.
This 7th version features a range of fruit macerations on freshly emptied Bordeaux barrels from Château Pabus. These high quality French oak barrels were used for a unique integrated vinification technique, including grape peel maceration in the barrel itself. The name (“Zotte Kadeeën” - “Crazy Kids”) refers to the abundant creativity of our youthful, passionate team, that likes to explore within the traditional lambic boundaries. This plum lambic is the result of a short maceration of plums for one month. It was then blended with young lambic and a final fruit intensity of 340 grams of plums per liter of bottled plum lambic was obtained.

Bottle at Open Beer Days. Pours a hazy orange with medium white head that lasts. The aroma is plum skin, oak, light funk. Slick body, plum, light tartness, earth, very good.

Pours unclear blonde, no real head. Slekk is sweet, bit wort-like even. Taste is sharp, intense, bit of a wort like taste as well. Medium fruityness, stronger lambic flavors.

Bottle @ the source, blonde. Peach, plums, oak and vanilla in the aroma. Sour flavor with citrus, plums, oak, honey and vanilla in the flavor.

Fairly hazy golden orange with a white head. Aroma of dry cellar funk upfront with oak and plum present but subdued. Comes across more like a geuze at first but develops and evolves with the fruit. Flavour is moderate sweet and sour. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Blended plum lambic in the added Spelingen van het Lot, with snow white, open, mousy ring of a head leaving behind small dots of lacing, misty amber-hued deep peach blonde robe. Aroma of unripe green plums and even 'mirabellen' but not so much ripe blue plum, sour yoghurt, raspberry vinegar, hay, sesame seeds, peach kernels, grass silage, dried herbarium plants, rhubarb. Juicy, tart yellow plum in the onset, very generously so, with green gooseberry, sour grape and unripe peach accents as well, medium carb, minerally notes; wheaty-bready base dried by lactic sourness, ongoing plum acidity though not too puckering, hayish Bretty accents and even a more mature sherry-like lambic character in the end (even if this one does not contain any 'old' lambic in the classic sense of the word); tannic, dry but incessantly fruity finish. Equally 'plum-filled' as Tilquin's Oude Quetsche - the comparison was hardly evitable - but in a totally different, more 'green-yellow' way, somehow. Fascinating.

0,75l from bottle at lambic o droom. Orange / pinkish cloudy color, small white head. Smells of berry notes, light blackberries, bit joghurt, some Funk, cheese, nice smell.full body, soft carbonation, slick mouthfeel. Tastes of funk, bit cheesy, bit medical, very notes, light blackberries, Raspberries, plums, lactic, grape skins, light currant notes. finishes lightly dry and lightly sour with notes of plums, grape skins, lactic and some funk. Very nice one, very complex, very good to drink 7, 4, 8, 4, 17

Bottle at the source. Hazy darker golden with small white head. Gooseberries, wet cellar funk, sweet plums, light vanilla, grains, green leaves, pear, light caramel, earthy notes. Over medium sour, almost medium sweet and light bitter. Solid medium bodied with sparkly carbonation.
