The original session beer, Ordinary Bitters formed a cornerstone of English drinking culture. Perfectly balanced between malt sweetness and hop bitterness, our interpretation is brought up to date with the use of US Chinook hops. Delicate hop aromas of pine, spice and dark fruits are followed by a smooth, full bodied palate with notes of biscuit and caramel. Brewed with EKG and Chinook.

44cl bottle from Abeervinum, Rimini, Italy. Pours medium hazy, reddish dark amber, with fine whitish foam. Aroma is earthy and malty. Body is average, with quite some carbonation for a bitter. Taste is moderately bitter. Final is average.

Cans from Lupe Pintos (2020) and Great Grog (2024). Hazy amber body with a beige head. Steady carbonation. Good lacing. Aroma of nuts, copper and dried leaves. Flavour of earth and stewed tea. Thin to medium body with a slick texture. Soft fizz. An excellent Bitter. I’d like to try a boozier version.

Pretty damn happy to have found a fresh Bitter in Belgium, a style I advocate on importing or producing more around here. This one - from A&H - I expect to be true to style, such as some of their other, well brewed beers i've had. sounds like a blast ! Pours clear copper, with a small, dense head, creamy and slightly darker white. Scent shows a whole lot of caramel, refined, grainy (bready) touch. Taste is full, crispy malty, caramel, breadcrust. easy drinkable. mild bitterness (grassy) . Going towards metallic, but isn't quite that just yet. a fine, easy drinkin beer, but sadly not the most smooth bitter i've had. Still happy to have found this though.

Copper-amber beer, big bubbled at first, with a cream-amber, good head (Aaaaagh!! a bitter with a HEAD???). Felt, olivebranches, moss, herbs, bark, earthy, crystal malt. Very well-smelling, in fact. Dry, bitter, with just a touch of crystal malt. Tannines, oakleaf, oakgalls. Very dry, bit astringent, light body, undercarbonated. Gentlemen, we are in the presence of a little gem. I can't but love it, longing to taste it from cask.

440ml can - Pours a dark amber colour with a small cream coloured head that settled. Aroma is malty and fruity, caramel, dark berries and earthy hops. A moderately sweet, moderately bitter taste, sweet malts, caramel, dried apple and raisins with a hoppy bitterness to finish. A lot of flavour for the ABV.

Appearance is murky amber, with a 2-finger foamy beige head. Aroma is hops- pine hints, citrus fruit, bit of malt. Taste is caramel, malt, hoppy fruit, toffee and raisin, biscuity malt, pineapple and mango hints. Like a traditional malty bitter with hints of modern IPA on top. Good stuff, quite full in the mouth for the abv.

Creamy tan head left a blotchy cover on a reddish brown still body. Spiced fruit, red berry & zesty aroma. Medium bodied, nicely carbonated with a clean back. Bitter fruit, tangy, berry & unusually hoppy for bitter. Very tasty!
