Barleywine Ale With Cherries

On the occasion of our tenth anniversary we present this sophisticated-but-approachable celebratory ale. English Barleywines aged in bourbon and rye whiskey barrels between twelve and twenty-four months establish a base of stone fruit, vanilla, and graham. A blend of sweet and tart cherries lends soft sweetness, acidity, and hue. Find something to celebrate now or store cold.

5 oz glass at Orange & Brew. Looks thick in the little glad, almost like a brown currant jelly. Thin layer of persistent foam. Smell is nice malt, alcohol and a bit of sugar cookie. Very big taste, with prime, sugar plum, vanilla, and a thin bobbin now on the side. Did not think there was much bitterness, then I pick up what may be some Pacific hops in the background. Sweet juicy notes on my lips.

Can shared at the Beau in London tasting, last group tasting for 7 months - who knew, thanks to Beau 11/03/20. Clear deep mahogany brown with a decent beige cap. Nose is sweet malts, toffee, chocolate, bourbon, fruit cake mix. Taste comprises sweet dark malts, molasses, mellow barrel tones, hint of dried red berry fruits, toffee. Full bodied, fine carbonation, light drying close with a balanced rising boost offered. Solid BW.

Crowler from Holiday Market. Pours a deep chestnut brown with a quickly dissipating finger of beige foam. Lovely cherry and oaky bourbon focused nose. As it warms notes of prune, cherry stone, rye and more oak. Cherry and whiskey soaked oak on the palate with notes of cherry and dark chocolate. Smooth, nice body...real cherry flavor without any of the cough syrup-y notes that are undesirable. Great whiskey soaked cherry oak finish. Great stuff.

Can in a trade with Sue Z from Chicago. Deeper red color nearly brown. Aroma is mild bourbon, natural cherry, and oak. Bourbon is on top of a bold lasting natural cherry. Alcohol is completely hidden but does show a warming finish. Cherry almost overwhelmings the bourbon. Still overall, extremely tasty!

Pours a reddish- (almost pink) amber color, with small, fast-dissipating head. Aroma is very boozy, with some cherry, chocolate, coffee. Flavor is cherry, chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, wood. Mouthfeel a bit on the thin side. Very, very sweet. A beer to be sipped and savored. ABV really sneaks up on you.
