It's not just the same hometown that unites Stone Brewing and Modern Times. It's an unceasing drive to create, innovate and challenge convention. (Not to mention the shared obsession with those little green miracles we call hops.) Modern Times / Stone WIzards & Gargoyles IPA is an achievement of collaborative awesomeness between two San Diego craft beer trailblazers. Centennial, Cashmere, Citra, and Azacca hops are joined by two in-development hops, yielding juicy notes of tropical citrus that play beautifully with the robust flavors and aromas of the coffee, supplied by, of course, Modern Times' caffeination masters. The result is a beer as wonderfully unique as its creators.

(Can) Hazy golden amber colour with frothy, off-white head. Hoppy, fruity nose with notes of passionfruit, pineapple, grapefruit, sponge cake and coffee. Hoppy, fruity taste with passionfruit, grapefruit, pineapple, citrus peel, honey, white bread, a touch of coffee and a generous citric bitterness in the finish. More than medium body, with a slight sweetness. Tasty and refreshing. Coffee is definitely there, but stays in the background of citrus and tropical fruit. Very nice.

Orange in color with a three finger, off-white head. Aroma is the usual citrus, tropical smell of an IPA. Taste is tropical fruit, citrus, spruce and...wait is that coffee? Yes, a hint of coffee. This was good.

Fruity herbal nose. Great mild IPA with an interesting coffee aroma in the back. Smooth mild, fruity with lots of pine and hints of coffee in the back. Nice one.

Canned from Goblet. Hazy golden body, some off white head. Coffee, citric and oxidated maltiness in the aroma. Lean taste, again, oxidized IPA, citric, mild coffee. Drinkable, old. If I can find it fresh, will rerate.

0.473 l can from Goblet Beer Store, Zagreb. Thanks, Marko. Hazy orange, small off-white head. Lightly to moderately hoppy, there is a hint of ripe fruit, spices, cardboard and even coffee. Peach and malts in the back. Thin, bland, dry, no bitterness, some coffee. Soft carbonation. Moderate finish.

Pint can from Woodman's Fond du Lac, 6/11/21. Finally found this thing as a single. Hazy orange, large frothy white head, good retention. Aroma of coffee, roast, citrus. Taste is coffee, grain, bitter coffee, tea, citrus. Thin. A little past its prime (enjoy by 11/27/20), but I bought it recently so blame the store. Could be better, but I'll give it some beneit of the doubt due to age.
