Brouwerij 3 Fonteinen “Speling van het Lot” (Twist of Fate) is a series of small batch experimental brews, barrel maturations, fruit macerations and blends. This 10th version features a range of macerations in oak barrels of grapes, grape must and grape juice on lambic of Brouwerij 3 Fonteinen. The inspiration for these grape lambics comes forth from our love for high quality (natural) wines and our respect for wineries with vision. Add to that the creativity of a passionate team and the warm encounters with winemakers-friends, and the idea for a grape lambic series was born. Besides, it is a continuation of what Armand has done long before with macerations of Pinot, Chardonnay and Malvasia varieties... For this grape lambic, we macerated the must of Muscat Bleu for a bit more than three months. The final fruit intensity is 526 grams of Muscat Bleu per liter of finished grape lambic. These grapes come from Wijndomein Hoenshof in the pretty village of Hoepertingen in the beautiful province of Limburg, Belgium.

3 Fonteinen Speling van het Lot X.i: Druif: Muscat Bleu Most - Raw & Uncut 750mL bottle at Cafe Beermoth, pours a dark red with a tiny white head. Aroma brings out musty white and red grapes, with a hint of funk, and old oak. Flavour is rather odd, with a strange musty oak character, old wood, some wood varnish, and musty grape skins. It has a perfumey, wood varnish character on the finish. Far from the best Speling, but it's fine.

Light and fruity, a bit woody, clearly vinous. Tart green grapes, though it's red. 👀 Interesting. Excellent.

750ml bottle. Sweetish, juicy and vinous with some grapes, berries and oak. Not very funky or sour. Interesting

One of several grape lambics in this fascinating Twists of Fate series by 3 Fonteinen, some of which, including this one, having been made even with most, in this case from a blue Muscat grape. Open and thin, pale ‘dirty’ pinkish ring of a head, deep hazy ruby-hued fuchsia robe. Aroma of lots of ‘wild’ grape skin, unripe green grape juice, grass silage, swimming pool-like chlorine, redcurrant, wet clay, earthy sour beetroot, sour yoghurt, red wine vinegar. Fruity onset, strong sour grape (even a little bit vinegary), strong grape skin astringency as well, lemony and acidic, very lactic-tart as well, softish carb, vinous and bone dry mouthfeel; dry, dusty finish, all the way soaked and dried by sour grape and berry-like effects, tannic and woody in the end, a bit earthy, complex and very long finish with that chlorine aspect returning. Quite distinct in comparison with the other new grape ‘Spelingen’, challenging and very complex, very interesting one.

Bottle at lambic o droom. Pours a dark purple with small spotty pinkish white head. The aroma is strong funk, grape skin, oak, barnyard. Medium body, vinous, grape, oak, funk, dry finish, very nice.
