Cozy up fireside with this festive winter ale full of spice notes and a robust malt character of toffee and dusted cocoa.

On tap at mad mex. A little better than expected. Was thinking this would be some holiday spice brew but its spiced notes are fairly subdued. Nice candy aroma. Looks like lighter colored root beer. Barely any co2 on the palate if any at all. On the tongue, this beer at first comes across quite strong and medicinal, then it eases up a little as the session continues. Yes, some type of spice in there but its well balanced. Not over the top. A little difficult for me but better than most holiday style brews.

Draft pour at Frankies. Pours an amber color with a foam head. Nutty malt aroma. Really nice holiday style ale. Creamy medium body. Really light spice, but definitely there. I?ll drink this again. Update: true to my word. Really rich, sweet malt heavy, much more than i remember. Not the most balanced, but decent. Good for one or two

Dark Reddish Brown, Huge Tan Head, Lots OF Foamy Lacing. Earthy Hop Aroma. Taste About The Same: Malty, Very Earthy, Hop Bitter Finish. Medium Body. Too Earthy, It Over Powers The Rest. Drinkable But It’s A Miss For Me. Worth A Try...

Bottle. A- Malty, alcohol, subtle spice, caramel. A- Deep mahogany color, clear liquid, tan head. T- Malty, slight citrus, slight spice, subtle caramel, toasty, floral, slightly bitter, alcohol. P- Medium body, thin texture, average carbonation, malty finish. O- Was a little disappointed with this one. Didn’t get really anything I was expecting from it or at least it was all very subtle. Mostly malty and a little underwhelming, but the color was gorgeous.

Pours dark copper with a quickly fading head.Nose shows liquorice, sour spices, confectionery, sweet malt and brown sugar.Roasty flavours with an astringent herbal hit too. Some confectionery-like sweetness and more liquorice.Carbonation is too high.

Reviewed from notes
She pours a fairly dark brown and leaves the same colored body with a white almost off white colored half finger head that dies to a small coating on the top of the body. Some spotty lacing is left.
The smell has a malty sort of caramel but kinda coming through in a bland sort of way. Still there’s some toasty yet also somewhat burnt nuttiness, spice tries to come through but stays muted for the most part.
The taste has a bland earthy caramel nuttiness, malty nutty aftertaste, dry finish.
The palate has a medium body, fairly sessionable - as sessionable as a winter warmer can be. Carbonation is fairly smooth and good for the style, decent to me.
Overall, for the most part, I tend to like Deschutes a ton, but this one is honestly only average to me.

2013 vintage. 12 oz bottle. Pours mahogany with full head. Aromas of toffee, malt extract, and golden raisins. Flavors of salt water taffy, raisin bread, and grass. Possibly some spice . Bitter finish with alcohol present. Recall 2012 being much better.
