At the request of the “Foundation Abbey, Town and Region” and the Town of Sint-Truiden, a special abbey beer was brewed on the occasion of the first open abbey days in 2002. What makes Adelardus Dubbel so special, is the use of so-called ‘gruut’. This is a mixture of about 10 different indigenous herbs. Further five types of malts and two types of Belgian hops are used. Adelardus Dubbel is a dark brown high fermentation beer, that is unfiltered, unpasteurized with a secondary fermentation in the bottle. Adelardus Dubbel has a full taste with a very soft, spicy nose and a slightly bitter aftertaste.

Bottle from Belgiuminabox. Pours a slightly murky very dark brown colour with a small beige head. Aromas of dry dark fruits, molasses, caramel, and liquorice. Taste is more dark fruits, molasses and liquorice notes with some warming alcohol. Medium to full bodied, smooth slightly oily mouthfeel with a sticky molasses, liquorice and sweetish finish. it’s pretty average.

Bottke from BIAB. It pours clear dark brown with a small foamy beige head. The aroma is sweet, toothy, figgy pudding, dried berry, raisin, fruit cake, toasty grain and a touch of spice. The taste is dry, toasty, bitter - sweet, toothy, molasses, fruit cake, rocky road, umami, plum pudding, cocoa powder, wood, light tannin, slightly charred, spice, earth and a liic of booze with a drying, toasty finish. Medium body and fine, foamy carbonation. All comes together well. Flavourful. A solid dubbel by all accounts.

Cane sugar aroma. Sweet syrupy flavor with some coffee and caramel. Just a hint of sourness. Plums. Not worth a re-buy.

0.33l bottle. Dark orange body with a thin pearl head. Aroma and taste of candi sugar, toast, orange zest, raisins, plums and a tiny bit of floral hops. Easy drinking dubbel, good example of the style. I like it.
