St.Bernardus Tokyo Sounds familiar? You are quite right, because in 2012 we launched a one-off brew on the occasion of the opening of the first St.Bernardus-themed café in the Japanese capital. Eight years later, you can sample our St.Bernardus Tokyo again, albeit with a new recipe!

The young Belgian illustrator Jonas Devacht created the artwork for the can, which consists of an impression of Japanese nightlife in the iconic streets of Kanda district, where you can find ‘Brasserie St.Bernardus’.

St.Bernardus Tokyo is an unfiltered ale, which has been brewed with a large amount of wheat, holding the middle between a white beer and a saison.

Character, taste, aromas
St.Bernardus Tokyo is famed for its hints of citrus, combined with likeable florals of chamomile and fruity yeast aromas of banana and red apple. Attentive beer fans may also detect a hint of clove and vanilla, as well as the typical esters of our unique St.Bernardus yeast. A refreshing beer with a spicy aroma and a slight hint of bitterness and sourness on the back of the palate! A real treat for the more adventurous beer fan.

Churchkey on 12.12 St. B Day. Frothy, sticky, hazy, pale gold pour. Mild floral funk, talcum powder, saltine, yeast. Lemon, floral, sweet glue, powdered sugar. Half tart, frothy, old rose, lingering lime rind bitterness. As much as I dislike wits, I don't hate this one.

Can via Drinkshop. Medium perceived body, med-high carbonation. Medium sweetness, med-light bitterness, light refreshing zesty touch. Very refreshing, soft spicy phenols, lightly chamomile and soft citruses. Very well balanced, easy drinking. Good, but nothing too exciting.

Can, 0.33l. Aroma of wheat, banana, coriander and leather. Pours cloudy golden color with thin creamy white head and average sparkling appearance. Taste starts light sweet grainy with banana note, following is grassy and spicy, mouthfeel is smooth, while finish is pretty bitter. Light to medium body, slick texture and lively carbonation in palate. Promising start and mellow finish…

Can in Tom's, Brugge. 9th June 2023. Not as exciting as I'd imagined, came across as a bog standard Witbier to be honest.
