Rich aromas of caramel and bread; a bit vinous. Copper amber color with a smear of white head. Seems full bodied, a bit slick, lightly spicy, and mildly carbonated. Flavor is malty, woody, spicy, hot hop, and a little herb - like some sort of seaweed - but not salt. There is no detectable heat, even down the throat. It is a bit sweet, but not sticky. There’s hop when the sweet goes away, but not a lot of hop. The taste is just great. Feels good in the mouth.

Much different form an American barleywine. Light hop aroma. Thin on the palate, with some sugar, lightly sweet malt, and mild hops. There is an alcohol burn.

Bottle pours deep gold with copper core with nice white head and spotty lacing. The full aroma emits cherries, grapes and sweet apples along with tasty smelling roasted malts. The taste begins very mild and smooth for a barleywine with building dark fruity esters like stewed cherries, raisins, grapes and plums. A lightly roasted malt note seems to take hold of the flavor midway creating a pleasing sensation against the fruitiness. Into the finish the dark fruity esters grow to overtake the maltiness along with muted pine hop bitterness. Just a bit of alcohol warming is noticed as the after taste starts. This is very nice and smooth and drinkable. It could use six months to a year of age to flatten out the minor alcohol sensation. But it is very nice right now.

Clear gold with a copper tint - minimal head - syrupy aroma, with some bright fruitiness, apparent alcohol, light honey - rather thin-bodied - flavor of british pale malts, medium sweetness, light berry and citrus - mild bitterness on the back end - all the flavors are rather indistinct, so much so that you almost forget the experience before you’ve even swallowed the beer - meh.

(Draught at Glenfiddich Warehouse No 68, Stockholm, 16 Dec 2007) Amber colour with frothy, off-white head. Fruity nose with dried fruit, apricots, orange, Seville orange and generous amounts of slightly rubbery hops. Malty, fruity taste with notes of wild berries, dried fruit, honey, apricots and citrussy hops in the finish. Medium to full body, rather sweet. Powerful and warming beer. Very nice.

50 cL bottle. Pours golden amber to deep orange, clear, with a diminishing light orange head. Deep barley and malty aroma, clear notes of alcohol and slight dried fruity. Flavour is soft malty with a dried corn/barley fruity note blending well in with the strong alcohol flavours. Ends slight warming and with the same persisting barley flavour. Soft mouthfeel and good balance.

Bottle. (2002 vintage) It pours quite clear and copper-colored, but there are lots of floaties in it, and it is topped by a minimal, off-white head. The aroma is quite lovely and sweetish, with some alcohol and hints of hops, as well as beef-stock and hermetized pears. When in the mouth, it starts sweet and caramel-ish, with a good alcohol burn coming after a while, and lasting all the way. There’s also some fruityness, but not much bitterness. The fruityness is like in the aroma, reminiscent of hermetized pears, and follows the alcohol until the very end. So does the sweetness. It is quite full-bodied, but not as full as one might expect. Someone mentioned honey in their ratings, and I can see that as well, it even gives me some thoughts of heather, but it is quite subdued. It is a nice beer, I wouldn’t mind having more of it, but then I would like to try a fresher specimen, I am a bit curious of the alcohol-flavors in it, as it is quite evident after five years, it may be dominating in a fresh sample. To put it short, a nice beer. (071025)

Bottle at GBBF 2007. Lovely copper colour with beige head. It is syrupy. Sweet, nougat. Honey. A rather stunning barley wine. Soporific, very syrupy with orangey fruit.
