Master Brew is brewed using only the finest Kentish barley and hops and is Shepherd Neame's flagship beer in the brewery's Kentish heartland. The "Local Hero" is a distinctive, mid-brown bitter ale, with all the hoppy aroma you would expect of a beer brewed in the heart of the hop country.

Bottle 500ml @ Geokkjer
Pours clear deep golden with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, caramel, bread, grass and floral. Taste is light to medium sweet and light bitter. Body is light, texture is thin, carbonation is soft.

50cl bottle from Meny Vollebekk. Pours dark golden to amber with a white head. Malty aroma with caramel, fruits, grassy hops and some herbal notes. Pretty light body and slightly watery, but well balanced and quite refreshing. Sweet, caramelly and lightly fruity with a distict, but mild bitterness in the finish.

Golden ale with a thick, foamy head. Slight fizz and it has a burnt toffee aroma. The flavour is what you’d expect from the smell, with a sort of burnt/sweet taste. For me the fizz makes it a little harsh on the tongue.

50 cl bottle @ home. Rated on 13.08.2010
Aroma has toffee typical to English ales, some caramel and hops. Flavour has nuts, some toffee, caramel and hints of butter. Yet another bitter.

500ml bottle - a bit of an uninspiring aroma, hops - but faint, same with the maltiness. Doesn’t look too bad, but very watery, bitter and boring in the taste and finish.

Poured from a 500ml bottle into a pint glass at my cricket club (Jan ’12). Pours to an amber/gold - light brown colour with a small head. Smells of English hops, I’d guess Fuggles is involved as a slightly earthy/grassy smell comes over. Tastes of light malts, light hops, slight (and ever so) citrus taste. Mouthfeel - refreshing and a dry hop aftertaste. Overall - a pretty average beer.

Feb 2009: Clear 500ml bottle, drank 6 months before its due by date. Poured into a Uk pint sleeve glass. Large bubbles in a white head sat on top of a sparkling light brown/amber body. The head got thinner and thinner as the beer was consummed, leaving only a collar and a wispy covering at the end. Hops for me won the aroma stakes, malted biscuits coming in second and last, couldn’t find anything else, but this isn’t a complicated brew. No strong, powerful flavours here, just a pleasant mix of Kentish Hops and Crystal malts which produce a typical Southern English Ale/Bitter. The bitter eliment within the flavour stays long enough in the mouth and I found this beer very easy to drink and enjoy, as I have done often in the past.
