Dit is een echte kwadrupel (sic), met sultana rozijnen in de neus en een licht zuurtje zodat de smaak niet kleverig wordt. Een geslaagde pousse café!

Huge, fine & dense yellowish head over clear metallic yellow copper beer. Boozy nose with alcohol; aroma's from toast, green herbs, dry grass, candi sugar, scorched caramel, dried fruit, banana, estery. Again alcohol & caramel reigning. Scorched caramel, rendering it almost bitterish. Again sweet dried fruit; I keep searching for the 'zuurtje' from the blurb. Quite carbonated; slick to sticky; alcoholthinning and -burn, 'hot'. The Huyghe thumbprint all over the place. Origin of the yeast, probably?. Again alcohol & caramel reigning. The strongest beer in this new Haeseveld series, brewed for the Haeseveld café at the outskirts of Ghent, owned by Huyghe. Bottle from a local Carrefour supermarket. Moussy, egg-white, thick, cobweb-lacing, irregularly edged head on a lightly misty, pale orange-tinged, 'metallic' deep golden beer with very 'fine' sparkling, turning into a misty peach with sediment. Aroma of banana-flavoured bubblegum, cheap brandy, potato peel, coriander seed, straw, jute bags, dried peaches, 'honingwafels', old doormats, rusk, fusel alcohol. Cleanly fruity onset, strong banana ester upfront followed by peach and apple peel notes, sharply carbonated which adds a slight sourish note; smooth body, clearly largely 'filled' by candi syrup as it feels quite thin for a beer this strong. Slender cereally malts accompany a white candi syrup- and honey-like sweetness to a hot and boozy finish, where a pinch of coriander seed briefly pops up, drowned in a stingy, peppery, wodka-like alcohol glow, at first accentuating the sweetness but soon becoming annoyingly astringent. Hoppiness remains low, candi syrup, alcohol and banana ester reign supreme here - a bit like I feared, based on earlier experiences with both Haeseveld's and Huyghe's outputs. Unrefined and unnecessary boozer - the kind of tripels I detest, to be frank. Forget about the 'quadrupel' association made by the brewery, too: this is a tripel or an 'edelbier' but certainly not a real quadrupel, even if there is no doubt in my mind that sooner or later it will get the company of a dark version which may then effectively be called a quadrupel in the right sense.

23 May 2021. At Haeseveld. Cheers to Anke, Robrecht, Annemieke & little Ise! Tap. Clear dark golden, small, frothy, white head. Aroma of caramel, ripe banana, candied apricot, pear, dark honey, brioche, vague solvent, hot alcohol. Taste has very sweet apricot, pear & banana over a malty base of honey, caramel & brioche; spicy phenols & yeast dancing in the back. Floral hoppy finish, lots of honey & candied fruits lingering as well as boozy white rum-like alcohol. Medium body, oily-sticky texture, average carbonation. Higher in alcohol but actually less obtrusive than the regular Strong Blond; the latter really suffering under its alcoholic weight. Still too sweet, sticky, solventy, and not really presenting the Tripel style in a new or daring way.

Clear golden colour, white foam. Nose of banana, dried fruit, apricot, peach. Taste is sweet, some citrus, heavy alcoholic. Sweet and heavy, not the best but not bad also.

18/VIII/20 - on tap @ Haeseveld brewery (St. Amandsberg), BB: n/a (2020-798)

Clear orange to amber beer, big creamy off-white head, little stable, non adhesive. Aroma: sweet ripe banana, bubble gum, forest fruit flavoured candy, caramel, sugary sweet impression, hint of vanilla. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: very sweet and sugary start, very sticky, caramel, cloying sugar, very gentle bitterness, not getting any of that promised acidity from the description on the menu. Aftertaste: very sweet and sugary, cloying, lots of caramel, vanilla, bubble gum, very yeasty, more ripe banana, sugary finish, nog a big fan, way too sweet, very phenolic, some cloves, bubble gum, yeasty, autolyse maybe?
