Recognisable wheat style with a sharp bitterness, although an unpleasant soapy aroma.

Brown 500ml bottle, best before 31 Aug 2011, drank 7 Dec 2010. The bottle version is 5% ABV, it was poured into an Abbot Ale glass tankard. I’ve had this beer in cask form a couple of times and wasn’t overly impressed, here goes for the bottled version: Pale it is, a weak orange colour, with a good white head of foaming bubbles. Labelled as a ’Blonde Ale’ by the brewery, it certainly looks blonde. The smell and taste is citrusy (lemons and grapefruits), ideal for a warm summers afternoon drink. OK for this evening too, it’s minus 8 outside, but cosy enough in my lounge. This is a better drink than I remember the cask ones being, maybe the extra ABV gives it a sharper edge, allowing thew flavours to appear stronger and more distinct. No great body depth, this is after all a summer blonde, not a winter warmer. So, it is just about right for the style and type of beer it claims to be!

Bright blond colour. Light, hoppy aroma. Dry, hoppy flavour with a nice malt balance giving a ’well rounded’ feel.

Bottle from ASDA. Amber with a slight white head and moderate carbonation. Tired hop and bready malt aroma with a touch of apricot fruit. Metallic and cardboard flavours dominated with some dusty sweet malts and short, bitter finish. Displayed most of the ill effects of pasteurisation. Poor.
