23/9/2022. Cask half at The New Inn, Colchester. Pours very dark brown with a bubbly frothy beige head. Aroma or roasted malt, caramel, fudge brownie, sweet milk, light coffee biscuit. Medium plus sweetness and light roasted bitterness. Moderate body, smooth, soft carbonation. Quite nicely done.

Can from Beer52. Dark brown to black with a beige head. Definite cakey mouthfeel, with a chocolate cake flavour as well. There's a lot of rather artificial chocolate syrup in there, along with burnt caramel. There's a roasty note in the background that offsets the artificial chocolate syrup just enough to let me enjoy the beer - and actually enjoy it more than I thought I would at first. The fake flavour stops me giving this really top marks, but it's a fun brew that made me smile, and for that I can forgive a lot.

Can sample at a tasting at Max's place. Thanks Tom L. Black. Chocolate, nuts, somewhat artificial, sweet, a bit sugary, a burnt bitter touch.

Half-pint, keg, shared with Finn at Maypole. Lacing rings down the glass from a fawn-coloured head, black in the glass. Lightly roasted chocolate, earthy, sweet. Taste like vanilla chocolate cake, rather sweet, dry. Soft chocolate malty ending. Nice. (Cambridge 14.11.2021)

Draught at the brewery. Dark brown and opaque with a ring of beige head. Fresh caramel with fresh vanilla and chocolate fudge notes in the aroma. Sweet, gooey taste with a good bit of hoppy bitterness in the finish. Full, oily body with soft carbonation. A tasty stout.

Can from Beer52. Pours pretty much jet black with a sizeable but transient dark beige head. Fudge, coffee, chocolate and fruitcake in a rich heady aroma. Has a smooth creamy texture, and flavours on the sweet side. Milk chocolate to the fore, along with fudge, toffee and honey. Some bitterness from coffee grounds in the finish. This a is pretty much a liquid Mars Bar ! Very nice but not much beer character to it.
