Previously known as Eden First Emperor
The name of our traditional English India Pale Ale is inspired by King Edward VII, the first British emperor of India. It reaches back in time to the days before IPA became all about sizzling American hops and big flavours. We use traditional floor malted Maris Otter barley and personally choose a blend of English hops from Charles Faram hop merchants to create an IPA like it used to be - nuanced, subtle and full of class.

Rocky white head on a clear amber coloured body. Malt, newspaper & English hops aroma. Medium bodied, smooth & foamy with a cloying back. Malt, caramel & sweet citrus tastes with a long bitter hoppy finish. Standard EIPA.

Dark golden colour with moderate carbonation. Aroma and flavour are quite old and dusty. Cardboard. Maltiness in the beginning fades away and is not replaced by enough hop bite or freshness.

500ml bottle drank in my back garden on 24th June 2018, during a random tasting session with myself. Lovely warm afternoon and England had just beaten Panama 6-1, this was one of the six English beers I had in the session. Golden body, white affair for a head. Light citrus leanings in both the nose and taste, subtle bitterness over a mild malty base. Easy drinking beer without your senses getting too excited.

Bottle from Rheged. Appearance - golden with a decent head. Nose - butterscotch straight up though benefit of the doubt might give caramel. Taste - more butterscotch or caramel. A bitter lemon tang at the back. Metal note throughout. Palate - close to medium bodied with a creamy yet tangy texture and a finishthat could be fresher. Overall - I’m not sure this is what the brewer intended. Probably better on cask.

Cask-conditioned at the Bag O’Nails, Bristol 6/9/2015. Amber with a thin, off-white, head. Sweetish, biscuity, bitter with some citrus fruits and crisp, cereal, malts before a lengthy, bitter, finish. Good.
