Keg on tap at CASK Pub & Kitchen on 26th March 2011. Brown with thinnish white foam ring. Yeasty aroma with light citric tinge. Fruity and quite lemony liquid with spicy notes and a touch of smoke. Dry on tongue. Short, quite light end with cheesy notes and a fairly citric dry final interlude. Dry mouthfeel. Re-rating: Draft at BrewDog, Camden Town on 25th August 2012. Brown with thin offwhite film head, diminishing. Malty, slightly soapy inviting aroma, not overly sweet. Maltfest in the mouth - rich and intense maltiness - biscuits and hazelnuts abound. Malty finish with touches of delicate bitterness. Zingy but not overcarbonated.

0.5l bottle (#547). This one pours a dark brown cloudy body with solid off-white creamy head. Aromas of chocolate, sweet malt, some dark fruits and a nutty twist. Lively carbonation - almost to much and thin bodied. Think I perhaps served it a bit to cold. As the temperature raises you get a more and more clear grassy bitterness from the hops, and the roasted malts really sticks itself to the top of your mouth Tastes cocoa, cloves with a almost synthetic cappuccino flavor and a grassy dryish finish from the hops. The synthetic flavor fades and you get the impression that you just had a nice commercial brown ale.

Thickset, huge light-greige head, pretty stable; opaque dark-brown beer. Chocolate malt, roasted and lots of sweet coffee. Capuccino? Taste: sourish coffee - does that exist? Milk chocolate from sour milk? Still, it ain’t half bad. Some hidden esters, retronasal. Well-bodied but not thick. Bit grist slickness. Rather sourish compared to commercial brown ales. But historically, this one might actually be more authentic.
