Almost opaque red - brown beer with a tidy cream coloured head. Nice nose of malt cream and red wine. Palate starts smooth but turns minerally crisp. Smooth malt, creamy and carrying a fair bit of toffee and a touch of what tastes like oxidised caramel. Light red wine and red wine berry fruits. Light minerals in the finish. Decent but I would have appreciated less caramel.

750 ml bottle into snifter, no bottle dating. Pours hazy dark ruby red color with a 1 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of huge raisin, prune, fig, pear, date, apple, caramel, toast, toffee, brown sugar, light chocolate, oak, light clove, red wine, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Fantastic aromas with big complexity of dark fruity notes with good malt balance; and great strength. Taste of big raisin, prune, fig, pear, date, apple, caramel, toast, brown sugar, toffee, light chocolate, clove, oak, red wine, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Lingering notes of dark fruits, pear, apple, caramel, toast, brown sugar, light chocolate, oak, clove, and light red wine on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice balance and complexity of dark fruit and malt flavors with moderate wine barrel presence; with a great malt/fruity balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a moderately creamy and lightly slick mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a highly excellent scotch ale! All around great complexity and balance of dark fruit and malt flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

Pours cloudy mahogany into a thistle. Off-white head with medium retention recedes leaving no lacing to coat surface. Molasses and bourbon aromas. Thick and dry with sweet molasses and toffee upfront turning to warm oak and vanilla in the dry lasting finish.

Deep, sweet, malty, spicy and warm scotch ale. It’s so full that drinking this feels like eating a meal.

Bottle - Sweet red malts with some mild sourness and acid. Clear amber with no head. Sweet malts and some wine notes coming from the barrel. Wood notes are there but not in abundance, far in the background. Nice beer, bit too sweet though.

Corked bottle from Au Grain d’Orge, Crissier, 8% ABV
in parallel with a bottle of the regular Scotch Silly

Dark brown color with medium sized creamy head. The aroma is semi-sweet, a bit dusty, some pond water, caramel, apparently just a hint of wine. Correct body structure, sweet caramel flavor with a dusty touch and some vinous character; the bitterness is quite low..
Good Belgian, not impressive though.

750mL bottle, pours a deep dark mahogany with a small beige head. Aroma of deep dark fruits, caramel and moderate barrels. Flavour brings out prominent notes of figs as dates, followed by caramel and very subtle use of the barrels. Certainly not that dominating on the wood, but it seems to have amplified the complexity of this. Great stuff.

Bottle courtesy of sebletitje, the 75cl bottle pours with a clear amber body and copper hues supporting a thin tan head of foam. The aroma offers up a thin ribbon of caramel, prunes, cherries and dates as well as a faint sweet vanilla like note. The taste begins with sweet dark fruity esters like prunes and dates and cherries and then picks up a bit of caramel. Midway and into the finish a light vanilla note is noticed as brown sugar coated juicy ripe plums help take this into the finish along with a mild booziness. Solid stuff. The barrel contact time is solid as it adds to the experience rather than wipes it out like so many other barrel aged brews seem to do.

Sampled from bottle @ WWT II thanks to Deanso. Hazy reddish color, small off-white head. Smell malts, sweetness, alcohol. Taste malts, sweetness, a bit winey, lightly alcohol. Quite like it actually. Medium body, medium carbonation.
