Said to enjoy the odd tipple, Thomas Skelton the ghost of Muncaster Castle is still fooling around today. His favourite beer, named after his good self; is a golden amber ale with all the characteristics of a light mild.

Cask at the Stag and Hounds, Binfield. Pale amber with a loose white head; earthy caramel malt aroma; medium body with a toffee flavour; then some fruity hops giving a pleasantly bitter, biscuity finish.

This is OK, not one of the best I’ve had. A bit too much lingering sweetness. It does taste stronger than 4%, leading to a reasonable finish.

Cask@The Monro, Liverpool. Bronze colour with a fading off white head. Sweet slightly fruity aroma. Flavour was sweet malty and lacking any real character. Lightly bitter finish. Ok (ish) but leaning towards the average side of the street.

Cask@Cayo Arms, Cardiff. Nut brown color, small off-white head. Nutty, sweet toffeish nose. Nutty malty, towards the finish there is some harsh elements. Quite uninteresting mild without any big faults.

Cask handpull at Folkestone Wetherspoon’s. Copper colour, disappearing bubbly beige head. Some red berry malt fruit aroma. Bit thin in mouth. Not much of a finish. Faint hop. Fine, nothing wrong, just lacks flavour
