Brooklyn Monster Ale is a classic barley wine, a style of ale originally brewed by the butlers to the English and American aristocracy. It is brewed from three mashes of heirloom British malt and spiced with aromatic American Willamette, Cascade and Fuggle hops.
After four months of aging, it has a magnificent burnished copper color, an aroma redolent of sherry, citrusy hops and fruit, a soft, warming, complex palate, a spiritous finish, and a strength of 10.8%.
It is vivacious when young, but will age gracefully for many years, becoming more complex over time.

Bottle: Poured a rusty copper brown with a thin off white to beige head. Aroma is light boozy with some nice hop. Taste burns the tongue with hops and yet has a mellow malt character in the finish. Not overpowering with alcohol as one might expect out of barely wine.

bottle pours deep orange/red with a medium off white head. Strong candy sugar and citrus aroma. Flavor is strong alcohol it buries some sweet pear and toffee to the point that it’s distracting.

2009 Bottle. Pours with a slightly hazed amber-orange body and a fine off-white head of bubbles. Aroma of brown sugar, a grainy middle note and a slight stone fruit essence to the finish. Some alcohol and brandy notes as well. Taste is bitter with burnt brown sugar, some alcohol and light tanginess. Light bubbles and a long finish.

Bottle as shown. Pours a clear copper amber with a small white head that diminishes quickly to nothing leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is citrus and sugary fruit. Medium mouthfeel with a sugary fruit flavor and alcohol present but not too overpowering. A good barleywine from Brooklyn.

3rd August 2008. Very sweet start, some hints of bubblegum. Saccahrine sweet malt leading to a dry dry finish. A touch of tobacco and a little alcohol warmth. Very drinkable.

2007 bottle. Beautiful brownish color. The foam was not large and went down quickly. After around 10 minutes, there was no foam left at all. The aroma was significantly malty, fairly sweet one. Syrup, raisins, dried fruit. Syrup, malt, raisins, so what was in the aroma was also in taste. Body was medium. I felt a bit of the alcohol. Aftertaste contained some marzipan. A good beer!

Bottle. Big aroma of hops and burning alcohol, cherries. Flavor of caramel, some chocolate, dried dark fruits, cherry, raisins, lots of hops. Well integrated flavor. Well put-together barley wine, though not quite one of the bests.
