(Draught at Foeders, Amsterdam, 6 May 2022) Dark brown colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, vinous nose with notes of dried fruit, caramel, spices and hints of glue. Malty, sweet taste with caramel, brown sugar, toffee, bourbon, raisins, figs oak wood and a mild spicy bitterness in a vinous and warming finish. Full body, quite sweet. Tasty and warming, fairly well balanced for its strength. Very nice.

Cool beer, the barrel aging is at the front and it is strong, boozy and complex. Very good. Foeders ams

33cl Fles van Landal Coldenhove. Donkerbuine kleur, dunne kraag.

Rum barrel aged edition of BBC Four, a quadrupel flavoured with woodruff, by Dutch Bronckhorster (formerly Rodenburg); bottle from Beerdome in Groningen. Medium thick, off-white, quickly opening head, deep chestnut brown robe with warm, deep amberish glow. Aroma of caramel, toffee, banana, sweet sherry, incense or even paraffin somewhere, vanilla-like oak wood, brown rum, cooked apple, wet clay, chewing gum, ripe peach, date jam, coriander seed. Sweet onset, banana mingled with candied fig and peach jam, bit bubblegummy, softish carb, full mouthfeel; toffeeish, hazelnutty, even somewhat milk-chocolatey and brown-bready malt body, layered and mouth-filling with a toasty-bittering edge in the end, with drying spicy and eventually strong tannic-woody impressions (though hardly any recognizable woodruff), followed by warming, rum-like alcohol, managing to avoid annoying booziness in spite of being very present. Sweet and even a bit sticky but interesting, distinct quad, unusual but certainly not lacking in complexity. May further improve with age.

Bottle, strong gusher. Brown pour. Aroma of cinnamon, ginger, christmas cookies, caramel, vanilla, bourbon vanilla, coconut, ripe cherry and nutmeg. Taste has delicious christmas spices like cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg, with lots of bourbon vanilla, caramel fudge, coconut, figs, dates, ripe cherry, caramelised malt and oak. Really delicious, like a ba christmas quad.
