This ale is traditionally highly hopped and robust to survive the long voyage to the Indian sub-continent. The result is a full-bodied Pale Ale with a zesty character. Dark golden in colour, pleasing toffee aromas, and distinctive floral citrus flavours.

bottle, pours light orange with a thin off white head. Citrus and noble hop aroma. Sweet candied light fruit with a sweet malt body. Nice, and definately a British IPA with more sweet and less bitter than the American IPAโ€™s, and I like it better that way! Good stuff.

bottle, Waitrose Abergavenny. Deep amber colour with a oaky wood shine. Fluffy white head. Very intensive hop aroma. Full-bodied, bitter-sweet. Lots of malt and fruit: lemon, orange marmalade and citrus hops. Very very hoppy finish which is quite bitter.

(The Jerusalem Tavern, bottled) Clear amber color, small white head. Woody, earthy, almost cellary aroma. Woody and cellary flavor too with some sweet maltyness in the background. Odd IPA. Some alcohol in the aftertaste.

Medium offwhite head. Amber body with light carbonation. Floral raisiny aroma with honey and resin notes. Strong dry-sweet resiny floral taste with wooden notes. Fullish body. Smoothish, mild mouthfeel. Clean palate. Harmonic. Bitter floral metallic aftertaste with dandelion notes. Excellent! Drinkable and balanced, yet full of flavour. (0.5l bottle at Olympen, Oslo.)

Bottle that is disappointingly labeled as an IPA. Pours an orange with a big, fluffy head. Aromas are skunky hops with little else apart from some grassy hops. Flavor is a nasty mix of bitter hops, skunky hops and a little bit of lemon. This might be better if called an ESB or pale or something, but please donโ€™t label stuff an IPA if it ainโ€™t.

Bottle: a bit unclear, light amber coloured, small, stable and lacy off-white foam; distinctive rough bitter and aromatic hoppy nose, backed by some sweet and toasted malt; moderate to solid bitter-sweet flavour, light to medium bodied; becomes a bit sweeter towards the malty-hoppy finish. Good hoppy english Bitter, but not an archetypal IPA........
