Pour this over pancakes. Vast in character, luscious and complex, Immort Ale was born at our brewpub in 1995 and made its way into bottles in 1997.

For this beer, we use maple syrup from Red Brook Farm (Sam's family farm in Western Massachusetts), peat-smoked barley and vanilla.

Immort is fermented with a blend of English and Belgian yeasts, then aged in the big oak tanks at the brewery.

The sweet and earthy flavors meld magnificently in the Immort Ale. But be warned, the ABV is 11%.

bottle shared by plovmand clear amber, smooth small light brown to beige head. sweet malty, sweet sugary aroma, mild spicy note. flavor is very complex, wood, citrussy flowery notes, nuts, yet stil not nutty, delicate malty, yeasty, the citrussy woody note bases all the other notes. nice very special flavor.

Got this bottle as a gift. 12 oz. bottle into a snifter. Poured deep mahogany with a small, off-white head. Lacing is there but light. Heavy carbonation is clearly visible. Nose is figs, dates, raisins and some alcohol. Taste is very sweet - maple, vanilla, maple and some woodiness, spice, and smoke. The oak wood is very noticeable up front. Finish has a good amount of sweetness. For me the alcohol lingers at the finish as well.. Mouthfeel is a bit lighter than I expected. A nice Barley Wine.

Bottle at home .. red brown ... thin tan lacing ... sweet fruits ... little smokey malts ... little maple nose ... over fizzy ... juicy toffee malts ... msaple ... light toffee vanilla ... little malt im not fond of ... but this is light and works ok with the juicy fruit sweet flavours ... little oak in linger... the malt character builds and isnt quite my thing...though im still enjoying it... im really thinking the US needs to branch out more malt wise.

12 oz. bottle, pours dark amber-brown with a small beige head. Aroma of smoke, caramel malt, oak and some berries. Flavour is much the same, with the smoke being the initial flavour and the others filling out. Slight alcohol kick toward the end. Unique barley wine.

24th October 2008. Hazy brown beer. Full on flavour! Slightly smoky beer with a sweetish mid and a little vanilla. The finish is a complex of sweet spirit and porty tones. Interesting - not had anything like this before.

Yeasty nose with traces of marigold. Cloudy ochre, headless. Stinging mouthfeel. Juniper berry flavor and otherwise very nondescript, still with a certain yeastiness. Mild chlorophenols appear upon warming. Not a particularly good barleywine, and I’m not at all impressed. Downrated for flaws.

Dark amber color. Nice caramel and malt aroma, a bit oxidized. Malt flavor, caramel, sweet, with very low bitterness, some alcohol perception.
Not suitable for aging.

The pour is not thick; it has a dark mahogany color and a reasonably big head, creamy. Malt aroma; I think actually that it’s quite slim. It has medium body strength, quite good malt and caramel flavor, partially sweet; I surely expected a more massive beer, thicker, to start with, and sweeter; the most interesting part is a light smoke flavor; ordinary bitterness; the final is even quite dry. Some alcohol warmth. Not complex as expected; well, last time I had it it was 11 years ago…

This a dirty, dirty beer. If it is in your fridge it might pollute your body with a whole lot of alcohol in a very short period of time. Basically, we start off with a creamy beige head and a cloudy light brown color. Maple syrup and aged wood in the aroma, along with a little bit of booze. The taste is rather heavy on the sweet side of things. Thick and syrupy, with a ton of malts throughout. A bunch of fruity flavors are also really present, along with a smoky undertone throughout. Although this a complex and well put together beer, it is a little bit overkill and not really suitable to my tastes.

2006 Bottle. Slightly oxidized aroma. Sweet malt dominates, with maple, some smoked flavors, oak, and berries. Fruity and rich. Loss of hop flavor, but a smooth, silky body has materials that is just wonderful. Delicious and interesting stuff.
