Trying this beer for the second time, and after the new label change.Nice copper color and it has a nice mingled citrus taste. I don’t love it; actually a little disappointed. The taste does get better when the bottle gets air exposure. Then the texture becomes silky in your mouth. A little heavy..sticky almost..only the label made it to "The Book".

Bottle pours a slightly hazy light orange amber with a small white head. traces of lacing. Aroma is hops more of the citrus and orange but a bit subdued. If not of the clue in the name I may not have guesed this to be an IPA. Flavors were a bit subtle as well. Medium to light feel and lively. More of everything would make this better I think. Bottle. Strong citrus and hops flavor, aroma of IPA, and after tasting, tastes like a standard IPA. Not too bad of a beer, nothing really special however.

Cloudy orange color with a fully diminishing white head. Citrus hops aroma and a grapefruit bitter taste.

12 oz bottle-pours a rich, light tan head with clear amber color. Aroma is hops. Taste is hops, grapefruit, hops and good carbonation.

Aroma is heavy of appley fruit, caramel malt and spicy hops, though maybe not as heavily as I expected. On second examination there is a mild peat scent. Appearance is also a bit disappointing. Color is a nice dark, dark amber, but head is minimal and soapy... disappearing quickly. Flavor is heavy of malt and syrupy, but I don’t see how this is the heavily hopped IPA marvel that it is made out to be. Reminded me more of Samuel Smith’s India Ale than any of the American IPA’s that I’ve had recently.

Retaste: This one has a much better hops presence... pine, citrus and the like, but tastes a bit watered down. Much better than the last go round, but still a little disappointing.

2004 bottle. Pours a light-orange/yellow, good amount of sediment, with a deeper amber-orange color in the middle of the beer. The sediment creates quite a layered effect on the colors. Initially it pours with a large, yellowish-beige head. The head recedes to small foam clumps and leaves behind ample lacing. Aroma is predominantly fruity, with a little bit of spicy hops character. Some orange, vanilla cream and light herbal notes in the aroma, not huge and biting, but soft and juicy. Flavor stays with the juicy, fruity hops theme but also adds plentiful, balancing malt. Honey, light caramel and cream notes provide a good backbone to the mild bitterness and fruit flavors. The body is the most smooth and soft, almost creamy, that I have tasted from Weyerbacher yet. No doubt the unfiltered nature of the beer. They should learn from this one and filter less of their other beers. Medium to medium-full body, without being fatiguing. Slight wateriness on the end after it has warmed and breathed. No alcohol apparency. I think my bottle may have been 6 or so months old, if not longer, so the hops have mellowed out nicely, though I don’t think they were ever too strong. Well-balanced American IPA and finally a reason for me to like Weyerbacher again.

Bottle, sent by DocLock in trade, Aug 2004. Why can’t I learn: When I get a lot of different beers for my cellar, I must drink the hoppy ones first, save the high alcohol ones for later! So I’m just saying, this one is several months old and might not have the same hoppy goodness it was created with. Still, there’s a good grainy malt smell when I pop the cap. An amber pour with a nice thick head. The hops I get are pretty blended and may make the whole thing a little bland, but it starts out peppery and piney, then there’s some grapefruit and pineapple, then a good bitter earthy burn on the tongue. Still, the hop notes are nicely smoothed. Not necessary the ideal of the hop head, but a good intro to hoppy styles.

Pours hazy Copper - Orange color with an average size creamy head that’s just off white a tiny bit. Clean aroma of malt and nice mellow yet forceful hops. The flavor starts slightly sweet, then becomes increasingly bitter until the dry finish ends. This is a nice change from the Cascades dominant IPA’s.

Overall a relatively uninspiring IPA. +++Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer pours a hazy copper color with a small white head. The aroma is flowery and hoppy. The flavor is bitter with a little bit of grapefruit. Relatively mild and definitely lacking in balance. Smells better than it tastes.
