Bourbon County Special #4 Stout is an oatmeal stout variant of our original Bourbon County Stout recipe, also aged in bourbon barrels, that uses crystal oats to add a nutty character and a smooth mouthfeel. After barrel aging, we added Intelligentsia Coffee, both their cold coffee and single origin coffee beans from Ethiopia, called “Metad Buku,” to bring out a pleasant fruity coffee character. Lastly bourbon barrel-aged maple syrup from Bissell Maple Farm in Ohio is added which provides complexity to the nutty oats and coffee to round out the flavors, ultimately reminiscent of your breakfast ‘special’ at the local diner.

37.5 cl bottle shared with El Birrot crew for the X-mas tasting in Jafre. BB 14/09/2022.

Taster shared with Matt at A1 Hop Shop 144th. Appearance: dark brown with a beige head. Aroma: some dark fruity notes and baking spices. Taste: along the same lines, some nice fruity coffee notes. Overall: nice one.

On tap at A1 Hop Shop 144th, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out lots of bourbon barrels, gentle maple syrup, and dark roasted coffee. Flavour brings out deep roasted coffee, lots of bourbon barrels, subtle maple syrup, and some earthiness. Lots of deep, earthy coffee, with a wonderful bourbon character. Beautiful stuff.

375 mL bottle poured, shared by Tcon. Thanks! Surprisingly smooth varient here. Tons of maple and coffee on the nose. Some mocha. Dense cocoa brown pour. Thick body, lots of caramel, milk chocolate, coffee. Really nice bourbon character on an oatmeal stout. Unique and fantastic. Ridiculously smooth all things considered. One of the more distinct and enjoyable versions of this fine series.

Bottle. Pours opaque black, small tan head, decent lacing. Aroma is mocha roast, bourbon, hints if maple. Flavor is medium plus sweet, light plus bitter, muted make, a bit of tobacco. Full body.

From bottle to tulip glass. An excellent varietal. Coffee dominates and not too much from the maple. Great.

Bottle from Chi. Thanks for the assist Adam! Pours a pitch black with a finger of brown head. Coffee forward nose with some wood and bourbon aromas. Faint maple in the background. On the palate more coffee with bourbon. Smooth body with barrel being balanced, but also not easily found. Not bad, but KY Fog is probably my favorite variant this year.

It's coffee and maple but I also love it, maybe. 4.35. Nice espresso sweetness upfront and syrupy mid, leaving you with barrel and fun on the finish. Nicely done!
