Pitching somewhere between a dark mild and a porter, Maltiverse is a coming together of the worlds of sessionable dark beer. Released in parallel we have two takes, one carbonated and one nitrogenated. Robust roastiness balances perfectly with sweet biscuit notes, as coffee and chocolate aromas emanate from this classic version.

Cask at The Star & Garter, Bromley. Nose is chocolate, smoke, dark roast coffee, raisin. Taste is much the same with a nice milky chocolate mouthfeel. Malty sweet aftertaste.

[Cask at the Nags Head, Reading.] An opaque peaty brown pour, almost black, with a close beige head; chocolate malt aroma; rich malty chocolate taste that coats the tongue; then a finish that reminds me of chocolate spread on toast. Really tasty and very good for the ABV.

(Cask at Craft Beer Co Covent Garden, London, 28 May 2025) Black colour with creamy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of coffee, liquorice, black rye bread and pine needles. Malty, roasted taste with chocolate, coffee, dark bread, pine needles and a mild cacao/piney bitterness. Light body, dry. Lots of taste for a fairly low alcohol level. Nice one.

44cl can from Abeervinum, Rimini, Italy. Pours black, with fine light brown foam. Aroma is coffee and dark chocolate. Body is fairly thin, with moderate carbonation. Taste is medium bitter from roastiness. Very little vanilla, maybe. Final is fairly long and roasty.

Can from the brewery online shop. Pours clear dark brown with a thin beige head. Aromas of light coffee, hazelnuts, chocolate. Taste is more of the same. Decent body for the strength.

Can at home from Siren online. A dark nutty brown coloured pour with a lasting light tan head. Aroma is nutty earth roast, hazelnut choc spread, faint ash, coffee grounds. Flavour is composed of light tang, earthy nutty roast, hazelnut, hint of choco, some dried fruits. Palate is light tang, little thin, some chalky finish, highish carbonation. ok. Good low boost option.
