Very dark mild brewed with addition of chocolate and black malt. In keeping with the beer style, hops don't feature in the flavour profile of this beer as much as with other Great Heck beers but it's no shrinking violet. Beautiful chocolatey, roasty flavours dominate this classic dark mild.

Cask at Wenlock Arms with DanBrown. Very dark brown lasting beige head. Some chocolate bit thin. But decent choccy mild.

Cask at The Post Office Vaults; dark brown pour with frothy white head, roast malt aroma, taste has roasted malts along with leather some dark fruits, hints of sweet burnt sugar.

Cask at Guildford Arms. Dark brown, thin tan head. Aromas of chocolate and coca cola, going into hazelnut. Taste has more of the same, a little thin though. OK.

Not quite black, but very very dark with a off-white creamy head. Its mild character still gives off a good roasted nose and flavour. Medium-body.

On tap @ the Stockbridge Tap. Appearance - a beautiful opaque chestnut with a red hue around the bottom edges of the glass. Nose - chocolate and hazelnuts. Taste - more dark chocolate which softens into cream and then the hazelnuts follow it in. Palate - medium to large in structure, the texture is thick in creamy and it falls away nicely at the end. Overall - wonderfully sessionable mild ale.

Cask at the Southampton Arms on 2nd May 2013. Almost black with disappearing tan foam ring and no lacing. Rich coffee arom and liquid. Roast malts abound. Pleasant malty and sweet but with growing bitterness.

Cask at the Fat Cat, Sheffield. It pours very dark brown with a medium beige head. The nose is roasted malt, leather, touch of spice and burnt toast. The taste is smooth roast, light toast, chocolate, earth and pleasant bitterness with a dry finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Well balanced, flavoursome and rather drinkable. A well-made mild.

Cask-conditioned at the Seven Stars, Bristol 16/12/2012. Dark brown with next to no head. An easy drinking, chocolaty, mild with a touch of dark fruit sweetness, hint of coffee and gentle finish. Fine.
