Rich, sweet malt with coffee, treacle and subtle chocolate notes, this low ABV beer is full-bodied and easy to drink all year round.

This beer was originally brewed for James’ dad to be able to enjoy in his favourite pub and at local beer festivals (before lockdown). A dark mild may not be the most popular style, but we’re glad to offer something a little different for those who prefer darker beers or something rich in flavour but still refreshing!

Munich malt, Munich II, brown malt, wheat malt, double roast crystal, chocolate wheat malt, simcoe and goldings hops.

Bottle ordered from Beautiful Beers, Bury St E. Aroma had coffee, chocolate and dark berries. Dark and glossy. Cola brown tint. Foamy beige head soon recedes. Medium bitter - espresso and charcoal. Develops malty chocolate and light molasses sweetness. Sour berry edge. Light-medium bodied. Slick. Average-fizzy carbonation. Long somewhat astringent finish. Packs some character for the ABV. But also slips down.

Bottle at home in Hackney - picked up from Beautiful Beers. Light sweet flavour, very soft roast, a little earth, burnt rubber, dried berries. Light bodied with delicate carbonation. Light earthy bitterness to finish, a little more burnt rubber, dark fruits. Basic but not bad.

330ml bottle, Gyle no. 55, bought at Beautiful Beers, shared with Finn, Travelodge session. Decent fawn-coloured head, near-black in the glass. Clingy lacing. Moderate malt-berry nose, dry. Blended taste of chocolate malts and cherries. Short malt-berry finish, mid-dry. Fair enough. (Hotel room, Cambridge 14.11.2021).

330ml bottle delivered from Beautiful Beers and drunk at home. Dark brown and slightly translucent with a ring of khaki/tan head. Scent of hot chocolate, Robusta coffee, French vanilla. Sweet taste with cocoa and coffee beans, plus a little bit of plumand a touch of smoke. Light footprints of bitterness dance quietly on my tongue nearer to the finish. Milk chocolate dominates the aftertaste.Fairly robust body for ABV low carbonation. Very, very nice mild.

330ml bottle [courtesy of Grumbo - big thanks for the Mild supply!]. Opaque, dark chestnut colour with small, creamy, moderately lasting, minimally lacing, beige head. Roasty, minimally bready, dark malty aroma, notes of coffee, coffee surrogate, cocoa, some treacle, pumpernickel, a fruity touch of plum, prune, smoky-ashy overtones. Taste is sweet-ish and dry, roasty and minimally bready, dark malty, notes of treacle, pumpernickel, some coffee, coffee surrogate, dry cocoa, a touch of dark, dried fruit, prune, smoky-ashy overtones; lingering, roasty finish. Surprisingly oily texture, smooth and soft, minimally cloying palate, fine, soft to flat carbonation. I simply love this style for beers like this: a plethora of flavours at low abv - very good!

Ty Grumbo. Unfortunately this bottle is sour, and I suspect it shouldn't be. In the background behind the sourness I get nice roasty, coffee, fruity, malty notes. Too bad about the sourness... still drinkable, but...

Many thanks to Grumbo for this bottle. Smooth mild beginning. Easy to drink, grainy fruity. Mild in the aftertaste, caramel, raisins, fruity cherries. Very nice balanced, quite dry fruity. Nice.

6/6/2020. Bottle from Beautiful Beers. Sample courtesy of the SHIG, cheers! Pours very dark brown with a bubbly beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, nut and dark fruits with slight ashy/toasted notes. Moderate sweetness and light bitterness with a touch of berry tart. Body to match its abv. Excellent debut market beer. And a mild too!
