On tap at Altstadthof, pours a hazy dark amber with a medium beige head. Aroma has plenty of bready malt and toasted caramel. Flavour is malty and moderately sweet, with bready caramel, toffee, and toasted malt. A bit too much residual sweetness but reasonably brewed nonetheless. Alright.

Sweetish, malty and slightly tart with hints of berries, earthiness, caramel, toastiness and bready notes. Still not the biggest fan of the style.

Die Optik zeigt sich in einem klaren Kupferrot mit orangeroten Reflexen und sehr feiner Perlage. Die elfenbein- bis nussbraune, feinporige Schaumkrone wirkt dabei flaumig-stabil und gut haltbar. In die Nase strömen sehr angenehme Noten von Getreide, Karamell, Malanoidin bzw. leichter Röstigkeit und reifen Beeren. Der Antrunk kommt frisch, angenehm rezent und kräftig, karamellig bis toastig, ja leicht röstig, aber auch leicht mastig. Es präsentiert sich ein Körper mit guter Fülle, frischer, feiner Rezenz, seidig-samtiger Textur und einem schönen Spiel aus leichter Süße und guter, klassischer Hopfenbittere. Auf Zunge und Gaumen dominieren selbstverständlich die breiten Malznoten von Karamell und Maillard/Malanoidin/Toasting bis hin zu einer leichten Röstigkeit und einer sehr klassischen, grasig-kräuterigen, leicht würzigen und trockenen Hopfenaromatik. Das schafft ein hervorragendes Spektrum an Aromen, ein wunderbares Zusammenspiel aus Malzsüße, leichter Röstherbe und trocken-herber Hopfenbittere. Letztendlich ergibt das auch eine recht gute Drinkability, hat aber durch die merkliche Mastigkeit auch eine gewisse Sättigungswirkung. Im Nachtrunk schwingen die Malzaromen in ihrer gesamten Bandbreite sehr gut nach und weichen zunehmend einer leicht trockenen, klassischen Hopfenaromatik.
Fazit: Was kann man zu Rotbier noch sagen? Ähnlich wie ein Wiener Lager oder ein Bayerisches Märzen gehört das zu meinen liebsten "einfach zu trinkenden" Stilen. Ob Feierabendbier, gutes Genussbier oder zu deftigen Speisen aller Art (Jausenplatte/Marend, Blutwurst, Wiener Schnitzel, Gulasch, Fränkisches Schäufele, ...) - solche Biere können das alles. Obwohl sich relativ rasch ein gewisser Sättigungseffekt einstellt, kann man davon problemlos mehr als zwei oder drei Einheiten nehmen.

Tap at Altstadthof. Murky reddish chestnut coke. Malt, caramel, cappuccino, melanoidin, roasted. Taste is full; nose translates into taste. Sticky. Could use either more creamy, smooth, or more crunch. Drinkable, though.

Middle. Clear reddish-amber color and an off-white head. Caramel, malty, slightly roasty and a decent hoppyness.

Draught @ Brewpub. Pours amber copper with a White head. Lovely malty nose and flavor. A touch of fruit and bread. Caramel too. Medium bodied. Very soft mouthfeel and suiting carbonation. Flavor adds a touch of hoppy orange marmelade. Well rounded. A delight.

Ruby colour, rocky head that does not stay long. Aroma is caramel. Light bitterness, light sweetness. Good.

Draft. Copper beer with a dark cream head. Light caramel aroma. Caramel and citrus flavor with light floral notes. Medium bodied. Caramel and citrus linger.
