Deep dark garnet with large beige foaming head. Fresh caramel malt aroma with minimal grassy hops. Light bodied with crisp carbonation, somewhat sweet up front with caramel, a hint of chocolate. Lingering hoppy finish is nicely bitter. Strong carbonation gives it a bite that I feel, in the end, detracts from this drinkability of this beer. Fairly dry finish, consistent with its light body, it resembles a schwarzbier in these respects but lacks some of the malt and fermentation complexity.

had this is the bottle. Very malty with some hop presence. Must have not poured it right, as I got almost no head. have to try again. Bartender served it to me ice cold, so i dont think that helped. Pleasant drinking beer though. Rerate 2004 bottle. Awful. Watery, one flavor of light choco-caramel. Weak and boring. Drainpour. This is not a dunkel, or schwarzbier or bock or anything. It’s a crappy, cheaply made brown ale.
