A Bavarian black beer with distinctive carmel malt sweetness and rich creamy trademark head. Flavorful, yet smooth; it is very drinkable!

12oz bottle. This is one of the first few beers I really liked. I imagine it has changed considerably in ingredient quality and character in the decade since then...but maybe I’m mistaken. Deepish brown-amber body. Thin but steady beige head. Kind of weak on the chocolate malt, you almost get amber tones. I used to really enjoy this beer, but it just a medium bodied mediocrity these days.

Purchased at Walmart in the States in a tester 6-pack. Pours a dark brown colour with frothy off-white head that stays a while and has great foamy lace. Malty nose of caramel, chocolate and roasted one with hints of yeast. Also malty taste of roasted malts and cherries. All of this pretty mild. A decent schwarzbier but a tad too mild overall.

Nearly black with a medium head. Light body. Aroma was light roasted malts, fruity, herbal. Flavor had a light sweetness, light malts, a bit of fruit. Pretty boring.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Dagan’s place. Thanks kerenmk. Dark brown-colored. Malty aroma with caramel, light roasty hints and some nutty notes. Sweet caramelly flavor. Light to medium-bodied. Feels to me more like a Dunkel than a Schwarzbier. OK.

Tap @ Chapter House, Ithaca. Deep reddish-brown appearance with a tan head. Toasty, slightly caramelized, grassy, toffee aroma. Tangy, soapy, dark caramel, charred hay flavor. Not very smooth.

Dark, black beer with an off-white head. Aroma is quite sweet and malty. Lots of caramel. Flavour is also quite sweet and malty, Also loads of caramel. Slight hint of burnt malts. Quite mild. Pleasant beer, not very special.

OK. 5/9/9/11/11/9
