Bottle at home from my GBBF haul ... deep red brown ... sweet toffee malt little blackcurrant nose ... sweet toffee ... little cherry ... little molasis ... little dry ... but fairly decent

Overall Impression: I actually think that Saranac did a pretty nice job with this beer, it is a pretty tasty beer, nothing too special, but a nice starter micro for dark beer lovers.

Bottle. Pours near black with an off-white head. Aroma had chocolate notes and a touch of alcohol was present, a bit underwhelming. Flavor seems a bit subdued but there were nice dark notes of, chocolate and licorice.

To borrow the words of Robert Frost, this beer is "lovely, dark and deep." Black Forest is my favorite Saranac beer. The color is dark brown, the head is thick with a brown tinge. The taste is rich with notes of caramel, chocolate and coffee. I cannot recommend this beer enough. Enjoy it. I’ve had it in bottle and on tap - at the Hotel Utica, no less. Always stellar.

Bottle. Nice sweet choclaty caramel taste. But it’s too clean and mild. This beer has no personality whatsoever.

Pours deep brown into a shaker. Tan micro head with very good retention slowly recedes to skim surface leaving no lacing. Dark caramel aromas. Crisp with sour chocolate from front to back. Lasting nasty finish.

Bottle 355ml.Clear medium to dark red brown color with a average to large, frothy, good lacing, fully - mostly lasting, off-white to beige head. Aroma is moderate malty, bread, caramel, brown sugar, moderate yeasty. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and light light bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [260908]

Pours deep clear amber with nice mocha head. The aroma is full of dark grapes, prunes, plums and cherries to go along with a hint of roasted and sweet malts. The taste is much the same with a moderate level of roasted malts, a dash of caramel and then some dark fruitiness lacking richness and depth. Still pretty nice.

12 fl oz bottle. Pours deep brown and golden deep amber with a small lacing tan head. Mild roasted malty aroma, light liqourice and hoppy fruity. Sweet and fruity flavour with a light breadish roasted malt note. Lingering fruity hops finish, quite distinct and slight liqourice flavoured too. Not the classic schwarz bier yet a pleasant interpretation of the style.

Bottle courtesy of orcasteve. Pours black, creamy beige head. Aroma of dark fruits. Taste, dark fruits, malty, medium carbonation, watery aftertaste. Not a bad schwarzbier, too close to many basic German counterparts.
